If you lost a piece from a set you already own, search LEGO Pick a Brick or a secondary marketplace. The right route depends on whether the piece was omitted, broken, or lost—and identifying its element ID, color, and shape makes either route easier.
Choose the right replacement route
LEGO separates help for missing pieces, broken pieces, and buying pieces on its replacement-parts hub. A piece absent from a newly opened set is different from one you lost later: use the missing-piece request for the former, and look at purchase options for the latter. For a broken piece, follow LEGO’s broken-pieces route. Availability and eligibility can vary by country.
Request a piece missing from a new set
- Find the set name or number on the box or building instructions.
- Open LEGO’s Missing Pieces page and search for the set.
- Select the missing part in the set’s parts list and submit the request. Submit a separate request for each set that has a missing piece.
If the piece does not appear in the online request flow, contact LEGO customer service. LEGO’s UK help page asks you to provide the set number, a complete description of the piece, and its element ID from the parts list at the back of the instructions. LEGO says it will email when the replacement is on its way. Check the support page for your country for its current process and eligibility.
Identify the exact LEGO piece
- Find the set number: Check the box or instructions; it helps narrow a search to the parts used in that set.
- Look up the element ID: The parts list at the back of the instructions gives the element ID. LEGO’s element ID identifies a particular shape-and-color combination.
- Note the design and color: Describe the piece by both its shape and color, not just a number. A design ID identifies the shape, while the element ID identifies the colored element.
- Verify the listing: Before ordering, compare the pictured part and color, and check whether it is new or used.
Other marketplaces may use different numbering. BrickLink’s item number can differ from LEGO’s element ID, so search by description and confirm that the listing depicts the piece you need.

Buy a piece you lost or need for a rebuild
Search LEGO Pick a Brick first
LEGO Pick a Brick is LEGO’s official starting point for buying individual pieces. You can search by color, category, keyword, piece name, or number, and search by set number when rebuilding an older set. The service also supports piece-list uploads. Check local stock, current charges, and order terms before checkout.
As displayed on LEGO’s US page when checked on October 7, 2026, a Bricks and Pieces order under $14 had a $7 service fee. That is a market-specific, changeable charge, not a universal fee; check the current page for your region and your order total.

LEGO’s US help page lists a maximum of 400 unique pieces per order and up to 999 of each piece. These are US-specific limits and may change, so confirm the current terms if your order approaches either maximum.
Try BrickLink if LEGO does not list the part
If you cannot find the exact piece through LEGO, BrickLink may be another place to look. Its part numbers differ from LEGO’s, and its documentation describes participating stores and an affiliated Rebrickable route for locating needed parts. Inventory, condition, seller policies, shipping, and total cost depend on the individual listing and seller; verify those details before buying.

Compare listings before you order
For any paid purchase, check the details that determine whether the piece will actually work for your build:
- Exact shape and color, using the element or design information where available.
- Whether the part is new or used, and the condition shown in the listing.
- Seller identity, return terms, and shipping charges.
- Total cost, including fees and shipping—not just the listed price.
A part number alone is not enough if it refers to a shape without specifying color, or belongs to a marketplace’s different numbering system.
