You can remove individual products—or clear the visible list—from Amazon’s Your Browsing History page. That does not delete orders or Amazon’s retained purchase records. To keep household purchases private, use separate adult sign-ons through Amazon Family; to manage Alexa activity, use Alexa’s separate privacy controls.
Remove items from Your Browsing History
Open Your Browsing History while signed in to Amazon. Amazon’s Privacy Notice confirms that customers can edit browsing history, but the exact menu placement and labels may vary by marketplace and app version. The detailed button labels below come from Amazon staff guidance posted in December 2020.
- Remove one item: Select Remove from view beneath the product.
- Clear the displayed list: Open Manage history, then choose Remove all items from view.
- Stop the feature from showing future viewed items: Open Manage history and switch Turn Browsing History on/off off.
These controls change what appears in the browsing-history section; they are not a promise that Amazon stops collecting all account activity or erases other data. Amazon’s Privacy Notice treats browsing-history editing separately from recommendation settings and data access or deletion requests.
Does this delete Amazon orders or purchase history?
No. Viewed-item history and order history are different records. Removing a product from Your Browsing History does not remove its purchase record, and there is no established universal customer-facing control to permanently delete orders. Amazon says it may be legally required to retain some information, including order history, for tax, accounting, and fraud-prevention purposes. See Amazon’s account-closure guidance.

Archiving an order, where that option is available, changes its visibility rather than deleting the underlying record. Amazon’s UK help page says archived orders can still be found by searching or filtering by purchase date in Your Orders. That UK guidance does not establish that a current archive option is available to every Amazon.com customer, so check Your Orders for the options on your account.
Browsing history, recommendations, and future activity are separate
Removing a product from the browsing-history display does not necessarily remove its influence on recommendations. Amazon describes recommendation preferences separately; its Privacy Notice includes an item-level Use this item for recommendations setting. Review that control if you want a specific item excluded from recommendations.

Amazon’s Privacy Notice also describes signing out and blocking browser cookies as ways to avoid linking future browsing to an account. This is a broader and less convenient choice than turning off the browsing-history feature. Rejecting cookies can interfere with essential shopping functions, including adding items to a cart, checkout, and services that require sign-in.
Keep household purchases private
If your concern is another person in your home seeing orders, removing viewed items will not solve it. Amazon recommends Amazon Family, which supports up to six household members—two adults and up to four children—and gives adults separate sign-ons. Amazon’s About Amazon article, written by Dave Johnson, says: “All adult orders are automatically private from everyone else in the home.” This is a household-visibility feature, not deletion of Amazon’s order records.

To limit product names spoken or displayed in Alexa shopping notifications, Amazon’s instructions are to open the Alexa app and go to More > Settings > Notifications > Amazon Shopping. This changes shopping notifications; it does not erase orders.

Alexa voice recordings, transcripts, and typed requests have controls separate from Amazon retail browsing history. In the Alexa app or on an Echo Show, open More > Alexa Privacy to review and delete Alexa activity; you can also use Amazon’s Alexa privacy settings.

Amazon says deletion starts a secure deletion process, and completion time varies. It may not remove data held by third parties or stored outside Amazon’s cloud, de-identified copies, or every related record. Alexa shopping orders can be reviewed in the Alexa app and in Your Orders, according to Amazon’s Alexa FAQ.
