Pair it with a compatible Fire TV or Echo Show, make sure the devices are on the same Amazon account and within range, then say “Find my remote.” Other Fire TV remotes are not documented as supporting Remote Finder. If the chime does not start, check the connection and power, then try the troubleshooting steps below.
First, check whether your remote can ring
Amazon documents Remote Finder for the Alexa Voice Remote Pro. Do not expect Alexa to make another Fire TV remote ring. If you are unsure which model you have, check the remote or your device records, then compare your Fire TV or Echo Show with Amazon’s compatibility list. Compatibility varies; Amazon specifically excludes Element and Westinghouse Amazon Fire TV Smart TVs.
What must be ready before you ask Alexa
- The Remote Pro must be paired with a compatible Fire TV or Echo Show, and the devices must be registered to the same Amazon account.
- The remote must be within 30 ft (10 m) of the paired device.
- The paired Fire TV or Echo Show must be on. If the remote is paired with a Fire TV Stick, the Stick should use a dedicated power source.
- For a Fire TV Stick, Amazon specifies a compatible 5V, 1A power adapter and cable, or equivalent. An Echo Show should use its supplied adapter.
On a Fire TV Smart TV, you may need to enable “Voice Commands When TV Screen is Off” to use Remote Finder while the screen is off.
Make the Remote Pro ring
- Use an Alexa-enabled device or app. Say “Find my remote” to an Amazon device with Alexa, or use the Alexa app or Fire TV app.
- If using the Fire TV app, select the right device. Connect the app to the same Fire TV or Echo Show that is paired with the missing remote. In the app’s Remote tab, tap the Remote Finder icon if it appears. When Remote Pro is paired with an Echo Show, the Fire TV app can accept the voice command, but its Remote Finder icon is unavailable.
- Listen nearby. The chime may take up to 30 seconds to begin. It can ring for up to five minutes, or stop sooner if someone presses a button on the remote.

- Restart the paired device. Unplug the Fire TV or Echo Show for one minute, then reconnect it.
- Check power. Confirm a Fire TV Stick uses a dedicated power source and a compatible 5V, 1A adapter and cable, or equivalent.
- Check both remote batteries. Amazon recommends alkaline batteries. If one is bad, replace both rather than mixing old and new batteries.
- Repeat the exact command. Say “Find my remote.”
- Check the Fire TV app connection. Make sure it is connected to the device paired with the missing remote.
- Choose the right remote name. If you have multiple Remote Pro remotes, manage or check their names in the Alexa app under All Devices, then specify the correct one.
- Unpair and pair the Remote Pro again. Follow Amazon’s pairing instructions for your Fire TV or Echo Show.
If the remote has broader control problems, rather than just a failed finder request, use Amazon’s model-specific remote reset instructions. Reset steps vary by generation. For most remotes, Amazon’s procedure includes unplugging the Fire TV for 60 seconds, holding Left, Menu and Back for 12 seconds, removing and restoring the batteries, and pressing Home; do not assume that sequence applies to every model.
Keep using Fire TV while you search
Try voice control through a linked Alexa device
A compatible Alexa device linked to the Fire TV can perform certain actions without the remote. The Alexa device and Fire TV must be registered to the same Amazon account; some controls also require current Fire TV software and the latest Alexa app. Voice control does not replace every remote function. Use the Fire TV app or pair a replacement
The Fire TV app can serve as another control option. If the original remote is gone for good, Amazon also documents pairing a compatible replacement without it: restart the Fire TV, wait for the on-screen remote detection message, and insert batteries in the replacement. If pairing does not begin, hold Home for 10 seconds. Check the device’s compatibility before choosing a replacement; Amazon’s compatibility list identifies supported combinations. The Remote Pro is the model Amazon documents with Remote Finder, but buying one is not necessary to search for a standard remote.
