Use browser.targets() to filter targets that already exist, or browser.waitForTarget() to wait for a matching target to appear. Check both target.type() and target.url() when you need a specific page or worker; choose browserContext.targets() instead when you only want targets in one context.
Filter targets that already exist
browser.targets() returns the active targets across all browser contexts. Because it returns an array, use standard JavaScript methods such as filter() and find() to select the targets you need.

);Use filter() when you want every match and find() when the first match is sufficient. A URL check alone may select the wrong kind of target, so combine it with a type check when you mean a page, worker, or other specific target.
Limit the search to one browser context
If your code uses multiple contexts and should not see targets outside one of them, call context.targets(). It returns active targets in that context only.

Choose a target type before converting it
target.type() identifies what kind of target you found. Puppeteer documents these type strings: background_page, browser, other, page, service_worker, shared_worker, and webview.

Conversion methods are not interchangeable. target.page() returns a page for page, webview, and background_page targets, and otherwise returns null. target.worker() returns a worker for service_worker and shared_worker targets, and otherwise returns null. Check the type and still handle a null result:

}target.asPage() forcefully creates a page for any target type, including other. Use it only when treating a non-page target as a page is intentional; for ordinary page and worker handling, prefer the type-appropriate method.

Wait for a target that will appear
If an action is expected to open a popup, page, or worker, use browser.waitForTarget(predicate) rather than taking a snapshot before the target exists. Make the predicate specific enough to distinguish the target you want.

const popupPage = await popup.asPage();Matching a type and URL narrows the search, but does not guarantee that the URL is unique. Adjust the predicate to fit your application if several targets can have similar URLs.

Track targets as they change
A snapshot only describes the targets present when you call it. For ongoing tracking, listen to browser-context lifecycle events:
targetcreatedfires when a target is created.targetchangedfires when a target changes, including when its URL changes.targetdestroyedfires when a target is destroyed.
Use these events when your program needs to react to target creation, URL changes, or closure rather than perform a one-time lookup. Check the event signatures for the Puppeteer version installed in your project.

Common filtering problems
- No match in a snapshot: the target may not exist yet, or it may be outside the selected context. Use
waitForTarget()for a future target, or querybrowser.targets()if you need a browser-wide search. - The wrong target matches: include a type check and make the URL predicate more specific. A URL match by itself does not establish that the target is a page or that it is unique.
page()returnsnull: the target may not be page-like. Checktarget.type(); useworker()for supported worker targets or deliberately useasPage()if force-conversion is appropriate.- A worker lookup returns
null:worker()only handles service and shared workers. Confirm the type before using the result. - Behavior differs from an example: Puppeteer’s documentation has versioned references, and API behavior can change. Verify the method signatures against the version your project has installed.
