Check the saved file afterward to make sure the removal did not take article content with it.
Remove a banner or ad from one saved page

Open the page in your browser and let it finish loading.

Open SingleFile’s context menu and choose Annotate and save the page….

In the annotation editor, select and remove the visible ad, cookie banner, or other unwanted element.

Save the page, then open the resulting HTML file and confirm that the unwanted element is gone and the content you need remains.
This is the simplest approach when the element appears on just one page or its location changes often. SingleFile documents the annotation editor as a way to remove content before saving. SingleFile project

Remove recurring elements with CSS selectors
If the same ad or banner recurs on pages you save, configure SingleFile to remove specific elements by selector:

Identify the CSS selector for the unwanted element on the site.

In SingleFile’s options, open HTML content > remove specific elements.

Enter the selector or selectors, separated by commas, then save the setting.

Capture a page from the site and inspect the saved HTML to verify that the intended elements were removed.

For example, a comma-separated entry can target multiple elements, but the selectors must match the site’s actual markup. SingleFile’s documentation describes the selector mechanism; it does not provide a universal list of selectors that works for ads or consent banners across websites. A redesign can also make a previously useful selector stop matching or target different content. SingleFile FAQ

SingleFile blocks scripts by default because scripts can change how a page renders and may not work offline. That setting is separate from removing elements with annotations or CSS selectors. If a page’s interactive content requires JavaScript, changing the blocked-resources setting may preserve that behavior, but it can also affect how the saved page works. Choose the removal method for unwanted visible content, and review the result rather than disabling scripts as a substitute for removing a banner. SingleFile FAQ
What to check when a cleanup goes wrong

The banner remains: Confirm the selector matches the element on the current page. If the page structure has changed or you only need to clean one capture, use the annotation editor instead.

Article text or controls disappear: The selector may match a parent container that also holds wanted content. Narrow the selector or use manual removal, then save and inspect again.

The saved page looks different or loses interactivity: Script blocking affects page behavior independently of element removal. Review the blocked-resources setting and test the saved copy with the relevant content.
