What T9 password protection does
The T9’s password feature is managed by Samsung software and applies to access to the drive; it is not a password for one folder. Samsung specifies AES 256-bit hardware encryption and says the drive can be secured with an encrypted password on its T9 product page.
Samsung identifies Samsung Magician as the software for managing the T9. Its software support page says Samsung Portable SSD Software is integrated into Magician, and its Magician listing describes support for T9 security and password settings: Samsung Magician.
Set a password with Samsung Magician
- Install the current Samsung Magician release. Get it from Samsung’s official software support and download page. Check the page for current operating-system requirements.
- Connect the T9 and open Magician. If the drive does not appear, check that it is connected and that your installed Magician release supports your operating system.
- Select the T9 in Magician. Find its security or password settings. The app’s exact labels and prompts may differ by platform and version.
- Enable password protection. Follow Magician’s prompts to create and confirm a password. Samsung’s public information confirms that Magician supports T9 password settings, but does not establish a universal password policy or exact button sequence.
- Record the password securely before disconnecting. Do not rely on being able to recover it later.
- Complete any app prompts and verify the lock. Disconnect or reconnect the drive only if Magician instructs you to. Confirm that the drive requests the password before treating setup as complete.
Use the right platform for setup
Samsung lists Windows, macOS, and Android among the T9’s supported platforms. Its product information gives minimum Magician versions of Windows 10 or higher, macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 or higher, and Android 5.1 or higher. These requirements can change, so check Samsung’s current download page before installing. Compatibility for using the SSD does not guarantee the same Magician interface or security-management options on every host device. Samsung’s listed compatibility should not be taken to mean that a TV or game console can administer the password.

If you forget the password
Samsung’s public T9 information cited here does not establish a forgotten-password recovery method or whether a reset would preserve the files. Do not assume Samsung can restore access, or that resetting the drive will keep its data. Keep a separate backup of important files and store the password somewhere secure before enabling protection.
Hardware encryption versus separate encryption software
The T9’s built-in AES 256-bit hardware encryption and password setting are managed through Samsung Magician. Third-party encryption software is a separate workflow; it is not required to enable the T9’s own password feature.
