Restart your computer and enter BIOS/UEFI setup using the key shown during startup or listed in its manual. Find a setting named USB Configuration, USB Ports, or Onboard Devices, enable the affected port or external USB option, then save your changes and exit. The key and menu path vary by model.
Before you change a BIOS setting
BIOS and UEFI are the firmware setup interfaces that run before the operating system. The control you need may enable one physical port, several ports, or external USB ports as a group. Identify your computer’s exact model and consult its official manual if the labels below do not match what you see.

Rank #3
- 【USB3.2 8 Interface】 Type-A + Type-C USB3 dual interface, can run two devices at the same time, compatible with the existing USB peripheral products. In order to make the power supply of each interface stable, the capacitor adopts the solid state patch type that can withstand the high temperature of 250 degrees.
- 【 High Quality Chip】 USB 3.2 expansion card adopts new high quality NEC720210+NEC720201 main control chip and advanced low voltage power supply process, the maximum usb3.2 Gen2 supports 10gbs(theoretical value).
- 【Security & Reliability】 When the external USB device is broken down or the current is too large, immediately cut off the power to protect the peripheral and personal computer. After the fault is rectified, the system automatically recovers. Each port is equipped with independent capacitors that do not require an external power supply, ensuring a more stable power supply. The two interfaces can operate independently and do not interfere with each other, so the operation is more stable.
- 【Stability & Heat Dissipation】 The use of alloy materials with high thermal conductivity can effectively heat dissipation, so that the expansion card is always at room temperature and the work is more stable.
Rank #2
- 【7 ports PCIe USB card】 There is a 2-phase independent power supply module, which can feed one interface per output port to escape power shortage. Can operate without an external or auxiliary power supply; the seven interfaces operate independently and do not affect each other. Seven USB 3.0 Type A ports can be added externally to the PC case. Note: Not compatible with PS3/PS4.
- 【High Speed Transmission】USB3.0 theoretical speed up to 5Gbps, provides 10 times faster transmission speed than USB2.0. This usb expansion card enables quick access to files and transfer of HD movies, photos, music, etc.
- 【Stable power supply】The usb pcie card adopt NEC720201&NEC720210 chip. The USB interface can supply 5V2A power to external devices. Solid capacitors with good performance are used for low impedance, low temperature stability, and high temperature wave resistance.
- 【7 independent solid capacitors】Each interface has a stable voltage solid capacitor to ensure a stable power supply. The dielectric material of the solid capacitors is made of conductive polymer material, which has the advantages of high stability, long life, and low ESR (faster charging and discharging speed).
- 【Wide compatibility】 PCI-E X1 X4 X8 X16 compatible. Note: Not compatible with older PCI, backward compatible with USB 2.0 / 1.1, 64-bit and 32-bit Windows 11 / 10 / 8 / 7 / XP / Linux, not Mac compatible. Note: WIN8 and WIN10/11 users do not need to install the drive; XP and WIN7 users can download, unzip, install, and complete. (The corresponding installation directory for CD is DRIVERSǐ201R30230.EXE.)
#1 Best Overall
- EIGHT PORTS FROM ONE PCIE SLOT: Add 8 USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports running at 5Gbps, 2 USB-C and 6 USB-A, to a desktop, server or NAS through a single PCIe x1 slot, for keyboards, drives, docks, printers and controllers.
- THREE-GROUP 5V/3A POWER MANAGEMENT: USB-C 1-2, USB-A 3-5 and USB-A 6-8 are isolated power groups, so the card sustains up to eight 5V/1A devices or three 5V/2A devices without an external power supply.
- UPD720201 + UPD720210 DUAL CONTROLLERS: The same Renesas dual-chip architecture used in servers and professional motherboards, with high-frequency ceramic and solid-state capacitors on every port.
- DRIVER-FREE ON WINDOWS AND LINUX: Recognised instantly on Windows 11/10/8, Windows Server 2012-2022 and most Linux distributions on Intel, AMD and ARM platforms, with drivers supplied for legacy Windows. Not compatible with Mac OS.
- CLEAN SELF-POWERED INSTALL: Draws power entirely from the PCIe x1 slot with no SATA connector or extra cables, and fits standard desktop towers with the standard-profile bracket. Not intended for slim cases.
Enable USB ports in BIOS or UEFI
- Restart or turn on the computer. As soon as it begins starting, press the setup key shown on screen or specified in the computer’s manual. Common keys differ by manufacturer and model, so use the model’s instructions rather than assuming one key applies to every PC.
- In setup, look for USB Configuration, USB Ports, Onboard Devices, or a similar menu. Check whether the control refers to an individual port or to external USB ports generally.
- Enable the relevant option. On firmware with individual-port controls, select the port and change its state as directed by the screen.
- Choose the firmware option to save changes and exit. If prompted, confirm. The computer may restart with the new setting.
Manufacturer examples: paths and controls differ
| Computer or firmware example | Entry and menu path | What the control does |
|---|---|---|
| ASUS D425MC desktop | Press Delete at startup; open Advanced > USB Configuration > USB Single Port Control. Select a port, press Enter to change its state, then choose Exit > Save Changes & Reset. | The manual describes enabling or disabling front and rear USB ports individually. This path is specific to the D425MC; other ASUS models may differ. ASUS D425MC BIOS instructions |
| Dell Inspiron 17 7000 2-in-1 | Press F2 at the Dell logo; open Settings > System Configuration > USB Configuration, check Enable External USB Port, and save and exit. | This example uses an external USB port option. It is not a universal Dell menu path. Dell Inspiron 17 7000 2-in-1 setup options |
| Lenovo ThinkSystem UEFI example | Consult the documentation for the specific ThinkSystem platform for its port controls. | Lenovo documents controls for individual front and rear USB ports. USB Mass Storage Driver Support is a separate POST-time setting, not a substitute for enabling a port; Lenovo warns that disabling it can disable the graphical UEFI setup interface and other dependent features. If USB ports still do not work
- Recheck the firmware option. Re-enter setup and confirm that the port or external USB setting you intended to change is enabled. Save changes before exiting.
- Check the connection. Make sure the device is fully connected to the port. ASUS includes this check in its NUC troubleshooting guidance. ASUS NUC USB troubleshooting
- Use recovery steps only for the specific system. ASUS lists BIOS recovery options for cases where all ports on an ASUS NUC are disabled. For NUC9, it also advises checking that the motherboard header pin is connected to the header output. Follow the instructions for your exact system rather than applying NUC recovery steps to another PC. ASUS NUC USB troubleshooting
- Consider an operating-system block. If a device is blocked by antivirus or another operating-system setting, changing BIOS port enablement may not fix it. ASUS’s NUC troubleshooting page includes antivirus blocking as a check.
- Separate USB data from off-state power. A port supplying power while the computer is off does not necessarily indicate whether it is enabled for ordinary data use. On ASUS NUC systems, USB S4/S5 Power controls power in off states; ASUS notes that USB-C and charging ports may still provide power regardless of that setting. ASUS NUC USB power settings
