To enable TPM 2.0 on a supported ASUS PC, turn on Intel PTT or AMD Firmware TPM in UEFI BIOS, save the change, then confirm Windows detects a TPM with Specification Version 2.0. The menu depends on whether your system uses an Intel or AMD platform.

Before you start: identify your processor platform

ASUS uses different firmware labels for Intel and AMD systems. Use the matching path below; PTT and fTPM are alternatives, not settings to enable together. ASUS’s motherboard TPM setup FAQ shows representative menus, but labels can vary by model and BIOS version.

Enable TPM in ASUS BIOS

  1. Open BIOS. Restart or power on the PC. At the ASUS or ROG logo/POST screen, press Delete or F2. If BIOS opens in EZ Mode, press F7 for Advanced Mode.
  2. Choose the setting for your platform:
    • Intel: Go to Advanced > PCH-FW Configuration, set PTT to Enabled, and accept a confirmation prompt if shown.
    • AMD: Go to Advanced > AMD fTPM configuration and set TPM Device Selection to Firmware TPM. Depending on BIOS version, the option may instead be called Firmware TPM switch; choose Enable Firmware TPM.
  3. Save and restart. Press F10, confirm saving the changes, and let the PC reboot.

Check TPM status and version in Windows

After Windows starts, press Windows key + R, enter tpm.msc, and press Enter. Check that the status says the TPM is ready for use and that Specification Version is 2.0. ASUS also documents this Windows path: Settings > Privacy & Security > Windows Security > Device security > Security processor details. See ASUS’s TPM instructions and fTPM guidance for these checks.

If the TPM option is missing or Windows cannot find it

The BIOS menu does not match

Confirm the exact ASUS computer or motherboard model and BIOS version, then consult that product’s support page and manual. The PTT and fTPM paths above are common examples, not a universal map. For ASUS notebooks and all-in-ones, ASUS says that a missing Trusted Computing option means TPM cannot be enabled through that BIOS configuration; check the notebook/AIO TPM FAQ.

Windows says no compatible TPM was found

Return to BIOS and verify that you enabled the right platform setting and saved it with F10. Then check again with tpm.msc. ASUS identifies “Compatible TPM cannot be found” as the message that appears when TPM is disabled.

A discrete TPM selection reverts

On a motherboard with a TPM header, the BIOS may revert from Enable Discrete TPM to Enable Firmware TPM when no TPM card is connected. ASUS describes this as normal behavior; it does not by itself show that the built-in firmware TPM is unavailable. A separate TPM module is not a generic fix: check compatibility for the exact motherboard model before considering one.

Do not confuse TPM with Secure Boot or UEFI mode

TPM, UEFI boot mode, and Secure Boot are separate firmware settings, even though all can matter for Windows 11 readiness. ASUS warns that switching from Legacy/CSM to UEFI or enabling Secure Boot while Windows is installed on an MBR system disk can prevent Windows from booting; the disk must be converted to GPT first. Do not change those settings casually. See ASUS’s Secure Boot and fTPM guidance.

AMD fTPM firmware needs an update

For some AMD AM4 attestation or version problems, ASUS notes that a BIOS update may be needed to update fTPM firmware. That is separate from enabling fTPM. Check the support page and BIOS instructions for your exact model before updating.
