On a Mac, open Safari > Settings > Extensions and select the checkbox beside the extension. On an iPhone or iPad, open Settings > Apps > Safari > Extensions, tap the extension, and turn on Allow Extension. Installing an extension and enabling it are separate steps; you may also need to grant it access to the website where you want to use it.
Enable an extension on Mac

Open Safari.

Choose Safari > Settings > Extensions. On older macOS versions, the menu may say Preferences instead of Settings.

Select the checkbox beside the extension you want to use. Clear the checkbox to turn it off.

Enable an extension on iPhone or iPad

Open the Settings app.

Tap Apps > Safari > Extensions.

Tap the extension, then turn on Allow Extension.
If you use Safari profiles, enable the extension separately for each profile where you want it available. You can also find and manage extensions from Safari by opening the Page Menu and tapping Manage Extensions. Apple’s iPhone guide to getting Safari extensions describes this route and App Store browsing.
If the extension is missing, install it first
On Mac
In Safari, choose Safari > Safari Extensions to browse the available extensions. Select Get or the displayed price to install or buy one. Some extensions require additional setup after installation. Then return to Safari > Settings > Extensions and select its checkbox. See Apple’s instructions for using Safari extensions on Mac.
On iPhone or iPad
Open Safari’s Page Menu, tap Manage Extensions, and browse the App Store for extensions. After installing one, return to Settings > Apps > Safari > Extensions, select it, and turn on Allow Extension. Availability differs by device: an extension installed on one Apple device is not necessarily available on another.

Allow the extension to work on a website
Turning on an extension does not automatically give it access to every website. On Mac, select the extension in Safari > Settings > Extensions and use its website-access controls to allow, deny, or request access. On iPhone or iPad, open the website in Safari, tap the Page Menu, then use Manage Extensions to turn extensions on or off for that site.

Review what an extension does before granting access. Apple notes that extensions may access the content of the webpages you visit.
Check profiles and private browsing
Safari can keep extension settings separate by profile. On Mac, each non-default profile has its own Extensions settings; on iPhone and iPad, enable the extension for each profile where you want to use it. A newly created profile may have extensions turned off.

On macOS Sonoma 14 or later, extensions that require website access are off in private windows by default. To allow one there, open its settings in Safari’s Extensions panel and turn on Allow in Private Browsing.
What to do if you can’t turn on an extension on Mac
macOS Catalina 10.15 and later includes a security feature that can stop malicious software from tricking you into enabling a Safari extension. Apple says legitimate software with screen-recording or accessibility features can sometimes interfere with clicks, and Safari may show a message that an app or service is interfering.

Install the latest Apple software updates and try selecting the extension again.

If the checkbox is still unavailable, start your Mac in safe mode and enable the extension in Safari.

Restart your Mac normally.

Apple documents extension sharing across Mac, iPhone, and iPad beginning with macOS Ventura 13, iOS 16, and iPadOS 16. Turn on Share across devices in Safari’s Extensions settings on Mac, or in Settings > Apps > Safari > Extensions on iPhone or iPad. Only compatible extensions appear on another device; sharing does not guarantee that every extension will transfer. Remove an extension

Mac: Open Safari > Settings > Extensions, select the extension, and choose Uninstall. You can also delete the app that contains the extension.

iPhone or iPad: Find the extension’s app from the Home Screen or Search and delete the app. Apple also provides a separate in-Safari removal route for custom extensions in its iPhone extension guide.
