Install the updates offered by Windows Update, optionally request eligible updates sooner, and use a feature’s own documented setting when one exists. Microsoft can still roll out features gradually or hold them back on devices with compatibility issues.
Why 25H2 and 24H2 features do not all appear at once
Windows 11 features arrive through continuing monthly updates and controlled rollouts, not only through the annual version upgrade. Microsoft describes Windows 11 25H2 as an enablement package for eligible 24H2 devices. The versions share a code base and servicing branch, which makes the upgrade lightweight; it does not make every feature available to every device at the same time. (Microsoft, September 30, 2025)
Availability can depend on rollout timing, device eligibility, compatibility safeguards, Windows edition, and market. Microsoft may temporarily withhold an update from a device if it detects a driver or application compatibility issue. The Windows Update option to receive eligible updates sooner does not override such controls.
Install available Windows updates
- Open Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install the updates Windows offers. Restart if Windows prompts you to do so.
- If you want eligible updates sooner, turn on Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available on the Windows Update page.
The option can help you receive eligible updates earlier, but it is not a universal feature switch and does not bypass a staged rollout or a compatibility hold. Features may still arrive in a later update.

Turn on a feature with its own setting
Some features have a documented control in Settings; others arrive through servicing without a separate switch. For a feature you are looking for, check the current Microsoft release notes for your installed Windows version and follow the exact path Microsoft gives. For example, Microsoft’s September 10, 2026 Release Preview notes list these paths:
- Open apps maximized: Settings > Accessibility > Visual effects.
- Touchpad gestures: Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad.
- Tips: Add them from the Widgets board or the lock-screen widget settings.
These are examples from Release Preview notes, not confirmation that the features are already available to every 24H2 or 25H2 device. The notes cover builds 26100.9539 for 24H2 and 26200.9539 for 25H2, and distinguish gradual from normal rollout. Check the applicable Microsoft Release Preview announcement and your device’s update status before expecting a listed feature.

If a feature is still missing
- Check your version and build: A feature note may apply to a particular update or preview build rather than every installation of 24H2 or 25H2.
- Check the rollout wording: Gradual rollout means eligible devices may receive the feature at different times.
- Check compatibility: Windows may withhold an update because of a known driver or application issue.
- Check edition and market: Some features or management options are limited by edition or availability region.
- Check for a feature-specific control: If Microsoft documents a Settings path, use it after the relevant update is installed.
Do not assume that a missing toggle means Windows Update is broken: some features have no user-facing switch, and others may not yet be offered to your device.
For IT administrators managing organization devices
Consumer update settings are not a substitute for organizational update management. IT teams should use their established Windows update management process, test updates and features with a targeted deployment, and validate the affected apps, devices, and infrastructure before broader rollout.

Some capabilities are edition- and management-specific. Microsoft identifies Wi-Fi 7 enterprise connectivity and the ability for administrators to remove selected preinstalled Microsoft Store apps through Intune or Group Policy on Enterprise and Education devices. Confirm the applicable requirements and policies for the organization’s edition and deployment rather than expecting the consumer toggle to enable these capabilities. Microsoft announced Windows 11 25H2 as available on September 30, 2025. Its shared servicing foundation with 24H2 explains why the version update can be lightweight for eligible devices, but version installation alone is not a guarantee that every feature has rolled out. Microsoft’s 2025 announcement describes a support lifecycle reset with 24 months of support for Home and Pro and 36 months for Enterprise and Education; check the current lifecycle details for your edition when planning updates.
