To reopen the store, select Live on the same screen and save.
Enable WooCommerce Coming soon mode

In your WordPress dashboard, go to WooCommerce > Settings > Site visibility.

Select Coming soon. Visitors will see a Coming soon landing page, while authorized users and people with a private link can access the store.

Choose the scope before saving:
- Apply to store pages only: the Cart, Checkout, Terms and conditions, Shop, and Privacy policy pages are covered; other parts of your site remain accessible.
- Whole site: Coming soon applies across the site, including non-store pages.

If someone needs to review the store, use the setting to generate a private link and share it only with the intended reviewers.

Save your changes. Visit the site as a public visitor to check that the expected Coming soon page and scope are in effect.
The built-in visibility control handles this basic task; you do not need a separate maintenance plugin. The admin-bar visibility badge is a shortcut to the Site visibility screen, not a separate switch that changes what visitors see. See WooCommerce Coming soon mode.

Choose the right scope for your site
If you are adding WooCommerce to an established public website, store-pages-only scope can keep your existing non-store pages available while you work on the shop. Choose whole-site scope when other public pages should also be hidden. Check the scope carefully before saving: selecting Coming soon does not by itself determine whether the rest of the site remains visible.
Turn Coming soon mode off

Return to WooCommerce > Settings > Site visibility.

Select Live and save.

Check the site as a visitor. If it still looks hidden, caching may be delaying the visible change. Wait for the cache to update or follow your host’s cache-clearing instructions; if you use a CDN or optimization plugin, consult its documentation as well. WooCommerce discusses this behavior in its Coming soon mode guide.
Customize the Coming soon page
With a block theme active, open WooCommerce > Settings > Site visibility and use the Editor link beneath Coming soon to edit the template. WooCommerce documents six pre-designed patterns for WooCommerce 9.8 and later. With store-pages-only scope, the Coming Soon page may use a design that includes your theme’s header and footer. Coming soon mode or a purchase-only pause?
Use Coming soon when the goal is to limit public access to the store or site. If shoppers should still browse pages but must not place orders, WooCommerce’s Store Vacation Mode documentation describes disabling purchases while keeping pages online and displaying a notice. These options address different needs: one changes visibility, while the other pauses purchasing.

For a major update, treat the Coming soon switch as one part of a safer workflow rather than a substitute for preparation. WooCommerce Subscriptions’ backup guidance describes backing up the site, preparing and testing changes in staging, enabling maintenance mode for final changes on the live site, and turning it off afterward. That broader process is context for substantial updates, not a prerequisite for changing Site visibility.

When a plugin or custom integration is relevant
Most merchants can use the dashboard setting. WooCommerce’s developer documentation covers integrations that synchronize Coming soon state with another plugin or hosting provider, clear caches when visibility changes, or add code-based exclusions.
