Windows 10’s built-in blue-light filter is called Night light. Go to Start > Settings > System > Display and switch on Night light. You can adjust how warm the screen looks and set it to turn on automatically.
Turn on Night light in Windows 10
- Open Start > Settings > System > Display.
- Under the display options, turn on Night light. The screen should shift to warmer colors.
Microsoft documents this Settings route for Windows 10 in its display brightness and color instructions.
Adjust the warmth or schedule
Set the effect’s strength
Open Night light settings from the Display page and move the Strength slider to choose the intensity of the warmer color effect. A stronger setting makes the color shift more pronounced. Microsoft also describes the strength control in its Windows color and contrast accessibility guidance.
Choose when Night light turns on
- In Night light settings, turn on Schedule night light.
- Choose Sunset to sunrise to follow the local sunset and sunrise, or choose Set hours and enter the times you want Night light to start and stop.
Use the quick toggle
For a quick on/off action, open the taskbar’s Network or Speakers panel and select Night light from the quick settings, if it appears there. The toggle is an alternative to opening Display settings; the detailed controls and schedule are in Night light settings.

If Night light is unavailable or grayed out
Microsoft says Night light is unavailable with certain display drivers, including DisplayLink and Basic Display. If its control is grayed out, check for an updated display driver. Microsoft presents a driver update as a troubleshooting suggestion, not a guaranteed fix; its support page does not promise that updating will resolve every case.
What Night light does—and does not establish
Night light changes the display to warmer colors and is presented by Microsoft as a feature that may help with comfort and sleep. The cited Windows support guidance does not quantify a health effect or establish a medical outcome, so enabling it should not be treated as a proven treatment for sleep problems.
