No separate switch is needed for the normal user workflow. Choose Capture full page to include content beyond the visible screen, or select an area; then optionally mark it up and copy or save it.
How to open Screenshot in Edge
- Open the webpage or PDF you want to capture in Microsoft Edge.
- Start Screenshot using one of these documented methods: press Ctrl+Shift+S, right-click the page and choose the Screenshot option, or open Settings and more and choose Screenshot. The precise menu presentation can vary. Microsoft’s Screenshot feature page lists the entry points.
The feature was formerly called Web Capture; Microsoft’s policy documentation uses the current name Screenshot and identifies the earlier name. Microsoft Edge’s WebCaptureEnabled policy documentation was last updated May 22, 2026.
Choose full-page or selected-area capture
Capture a full webpage
Choose Capture full page when you need content below the currently visible viewport. Microsoft says this mode captures the whole page without requiring you to scroll through it. This is the relevant option for a long webpage; a standard screen capture only records what is on screen.
Capture a selected area
Choose the selected-area option when you need only a particular portion of the page. Frame the relevant content rather than capturing the entire webpage.

Mark up, copy, or save the capture
After capturing, use the available drawing tools to add markup with a pen or touch input if needed. Then use the overlay’s copy action to place the image on the clipboard, or save it as a file. Microsoft documents markup, copying, and saving as part of the Screenshot workflow. See Microsoft’s feature details.
If Screenshot is missing or unavailable
Check whether Edge is managed
On a work or school device, an administrator can control access through the WebCaptureEnabled Edge policy. If the policy is disabled, users cannot access Screenshot; if it is enabled or not configured, Microsoft says the feature appears in the menus and shortcut. Contact your organization’s Edge administrator if you cannot change the setting yourself. Microsoft’s policy documentation lists Windows and macOS support for the policy beginning with Edge version 87; Android and iOS are unsupported for this policy.

Allow for platform and version differences
Microsoft cautions that feature availability and functionality may vary by device, market, and browser version. A missing menu entry therefore does not establish that Screenshot is unavailable everywhere, and the interface may not look identical across installations. Check Microsoft’s current feature page.
Use Windows Snipping Tool for a screen capture
On Windows, press Windows+Shift+S to open Snipping Tool’s capture overlay. It can capture a region, window, or full display, and supports annotation, saving, and sharing. It captures the screen rather than using Edge’s full-webpage capture workflow, so it is not a like-for-like substitute when you need off-screen page content. Microsoft Support explains Snipping Tool.
