Armor dyeing in The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine is a cosmetic way to recolor eligible Witcher gear. It does not improve armor ratings, bonuses, or combat performance. To use it, get a dye in Toussaint—by buying, looting, or crafting one—then select eligible gear in the equipment screen, preview the color, and confirm. The Beauclair dye merchant is the most convenient source for ready-made colors and dye remover.
What does armor dyeing do?
Dyeing changes the appearance of a qualifying Witcher-gear item. It gives you a way to coordinate a set, choose a different look for a gear tier, or customize Geralt’s outfit without giving up the gear’s existing combat benefits. The change is visual: a dye does not raise an armor rating, add a bonus, or make Geralt stronger or faster.
The key limitation is eligibility. The system is for Witcher gear, not a universal armor recoloring or transmog feature. If the game will not let you apply a dye to an item, check that the item is part of a Witcher gear set before looking for a different dye or assuming the feature is broken.

Where is the dye merchant in Blood and Wine?
Look for the dye merchant in Beauclair, in the Toussaint region. The merchant is a convenient starting point if you want a premixed color or dye remover rather than searching for a particular item or collecting crafting ingredients.
Merchant stock is the most direct route, but do not rely on a single quoted price or assume that every inventory is identical. Prices and inventories can vary with game version, platform, or a modded setup. Check the merchant’s current stock in your own game before planning around a specific color or cost.
You may also encounter other Toussaint merchants selling dye solution or related ingredients. That does not mean every seller stocks every finished dye: distinguish a ready-to-apply color from its formula and from the ingredients used to make it.

How can I get armor dyes?

The dye system is associated with Toussaint and the Blood and Wine expansion. A 2016 Gameranx guide describes dyes as a unique consumable resource found only in Toussaint; treat that as a guide-era description rather than a guarantee about every later edition or modded setup. - Open the equipment screen. Go to the armor equipment interface where Geralt’s gear is managed.
- Select the dye or qualifying gear. Use the interface to target the dye and the Witcher-gear item you want to recolor. The feature does not apply to every armor item.
- Review the preview. Confirm that the intended piece is eligible and that the displayed result is the color you want.
- Confirm the change. Apply the dye only after checking the preview. If the option is unavailable, verify the item is Witcher gear and that you have the relevant dye.

Can you dye any armor in The Witcher 3?
