You can download the official Wordle through The New York Times Games app, but that does not unlock unlimited official puzzles for free. The app is free to download; NYT says non-subscribers have limited game access, and its archive puzzles are described as subscriber access. For unlimited play without downloading an app, WordleUnlimited.me describes its own independent browser game as having no daily limit.

Download the official Wordle app

The New York Times Games app includes the official Wordle. Its Apple and Google Play listings describe Wordle as a five-letter guessing game with six tries. The listings say the app is free to download, but downloading it is not the same as receiving unlimited free access to every game or archive.

  1. Open the New York Times Games listing in the Apple App Store or the New York Times Games listing on Google Play, depending on your device.
  2. Install the app using the store’s download or install control.
  3. Open NYT Games and select Wordle to play when it is available to your account.

The listings advertise access for subscribers to more than 10,000 past puzzles across NYT Games archives. That figure covers the app’s games generally, not Wordle alone. NYT Games help says non-subscribers, and people whose subscriptions do not include Games, have limited access; see NYT Games subscription access details.

WordleUnlimited.me The site says its independent browser game has no daily limit and requires no account or download. It is not official NYT Wordle and says it is not affiliated with or endorsed by The New York Times or Josh Wardle. The unlimited-play statement is the service’s own claim. WordleUnlimited.me.
WordleArchive.com The site says players can select past daily puzzles and save progress in the browser without an account. This is for replaying historical puzzles, not evidence of unlimited new official daily puzzles. Archive completeness is not independently established. WordleArchive.com.

Play unlimited games in a browser

If your priority is repeated play without installing an app, WordleUnlimited.me says you can open its browser game and play without a daily limit, account, or download. The service describes itself as an independent, fan-made game and disclaims affiliation with or endorsement by The New York Times Company and Josh Wardle. Treat it as a separate game, not a way to remove access limits from official NYT Wordle.

Replay older daily puzzles

WordleArchive.com describes an archive that lets users choose past puzzles by date or puzzle number, play them in any order, and save progress in the browser without an account. The archive operator says its first puzzle was #0, dated 19 June 2021. That is the site’s own description, not independent confirmation that its archive is complete.

What “free forever” does—and does not—mean

The available product descriptions do not establish that official Wordle can be played an unlimited number of times for free, permanently, or offline. The NYT app is free to download, but free download does not guarantee unlimited game access. The independent unlimited-play site’s claim applies to its own browser game, and the archive is for past puzzles. Access terms and site features may change, so check the relevant service before relying on them.
