There is no universal MSI Wi-Fi driver: the right download depends on your exact MSI model, Windows version, and wireless adapter. Identify the adapter in Device Manager, download the matching Wireless LAN package from your model’s MSI support page, extract it, and run the installer included with the package.
This guide covers standard and clean installations, Windows Update, Device Manager, MSI software, Intel and Killer driver choices, and troubleshooting when Wi-Fi is missing.
1. Find the exact MSI model and Wi-Fi adapter
Identify both your MSI computer or motherboard model and its wireless adapter before downloading a driver. Similar MSI products can use different wireless hardware, so a package for one model may not work on another.
Identify the wireless adapter in Windows
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Network adapters.
- Record the complete name of the wireless device.
To check the installed driver, right-click the adapter, select Properties, and open the Driver tab. Note the provider, date, and version. Do not judge a driver only by its displayed date: provider-supplied dates can be misleading, and Windows uses other package information when selecting drivers. Microsoft explains how Windows handles driver updates.

If the adapter is not listed
Look under Other devices for an Unknown device. If the adapter has a down-arrow icon, right-click it and select Enable device.
If the adapter appears nowhere in Device Manager, Windows may not be detecting the hardware. Check Airplane mode, the laptop’s wireless key or switch, BIOS wireless settings, and possible hardware problems before repeatedly reinstalling the same driver. See Microsoft’s Wi-Fi troubleshooting guidance.
2. Download the MSI Wi-Fi driver
For an MSI laptop or desktop
- Open the MSI Support download page.
- Use the search icon or product categories to find your exact model.
- Select the matching product and open its driver download page.
- Select your installed Windows version.
- Find Wireless LAN and download the package matching your adapter.
Use the model printed on the computer or in its documentation, not a similar-looking product name. If the support page lists several wireless packages, match one to the adapter name in Device Manager. MSI’s wireless driver instructions describe these download steps.
For an MSI motherboard
- Search MSI Support for the exact motherboard model.
- Open Download, then select Driver.
- Select the installed Windows version.
- Download the listed wireless package.
Motherboard pages may use different category labels from laptop pages. See MSI’s motherboard driver instructions.
When the MSI computer has no Internet connection
Download the driver on another computer, copy it to a USB flash drive, and transfer it to the MSI computer. Some newer network chipsets may not have a built-in Windows driver immediately after installation. MSI recommends Chrome or Edge when downloading files from its support site.
3. Extract the downloaded driver
MSI driver downloads are commonly compressed archives. Extract the archive before installing; do not point Device Manager at the compressed file.
- Right-click the downloaded archive and select Extract All.
- Choose a location, then select Extract.
- Open the extracted folder and inspect its files.
In Windows 11, show extensions by opening the folder and selecting View → Show → File name extensions. MSI packages may use different installation formats:
| Package file | How to install |
|---|---|
| .exe or setup.exe | Double-click the installer and follow its prompts. |
| .bat, such as Install.bat | Right-click it and select Run as administrator. |
| .inf | Right-click it, select Show more options, then Install. |
Do not assume every package contains setup.exe. MSI documents all three formats, and some wireless packages use Install.bat. See MSI’s notebook driver instructions.
4. Install or update the driver normally
- Download and extract the matching MSI wireless package.
- Run its executable, batch file, or INF file as appropriate.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt if Windows displays one.
- Follow the installer’s instructions.
- Restart the computer.
- Open Device Manager → Network adapters and confirm the wireless adapter appears without a warning icon.
Test the Wi-Fi connection before deleting the extracted driver folder.
5. Perform a clean installation if the update fails
A clean installation may help if the adapter is unstable, the installer fails, the driver is corrupted, or Windows keeps loading an unwanted package.

Prepare before uninstalling
Download and save the replacement MSI driver first. Removing the current driver can leave Windows unable to recognize the wireless adapter. Intel warns that uninstalling a wireless driver may cause this.
Disconnect Ethernet and turn off Wi-Fi. Keep the computer offline until the replacement is installed, to reduce the chance of Windows Update installing an unexpected driver during the process.

- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Network adapters.
- Right-click the wireless adapter and select Uninstall device.
- If available, enable Attempt to remove the driver for this device.
- Select Uninstall, restart Windows, and check Device Manager again.
Older instructions may call the checkbox Delete the driver software for this device. Windows inbox drivers cannot always be removed, so the option may be unavailable or the adapter may reappear after restarting.
Install the replacement
- Keep the computer disconnected from the network.
- Open the extracted MSI driver folder.
- Run Install.bat as administrator if present; otherwise run setup.exe or the appropriate executable.
- For an INF-only package, right-click the INF file, select Show more options, then Install.
- Restart Windows and reconnect to Wi-Fi.
6. Update through Windows Update
Windows Update can install certified driver updates, including network adapter drivers. It is convenient for routine maintenance, but may not provide the MSI-specific package you need.
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates and restart if requested.
For product-specific compatibility, or when Windows Update does not solve the problem, prefer the driver on the support page for your exact MSI model. Intel also recommends checking the computer manufacturer’s driver for OEM systems because it may include product-specific customizations. See Intel’s OEM driver guidance.
7. Update through Device Manager
Let Windows search automatically
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Network adapters.
- Right-click the wireless adapter and select Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for drivers.
The message The best drivers for your device are already installed does not prove that the MSI product-page driver is installed. Device Manager may be checking only drivers available to Windows or Windows Update.

Install from the extracted MSI folder
- Download and extract the matching MSI driver.
- In Device Manager, right-click the wireless adapter and select Update driver.
- Select Browse my computer for drivers.
- Browse to the extracted driver folder and select Next.
This is useful for INF-based packages or when the normal installer does not work. The package must match your Windows version and system architecture. See Microsoft’s Device Manager instructions.
8. Update through MSI software
MSI notebook driver updates may be available through MSI Center, MSI Center Pro, or MSI Dragon Center:
- Open the applicable MSI utility.
- Go to Support → Live Update.
- Select Scan, choose the driver, and select Download.
- Install the downloaded package and restart if required.
Some downloads install automatically; others only extract the package. If nothing appears to happen, open the extracted folder and run the supplied executable, INF, or batch file. For MSI motherboards, the documented path is MSI Center → Support → Live Update.
MSI Driver Utility Installer is separate from MSI Center. It may appear after a fresh Windows installation and first Internet connection, but is not guaranteed to remain available. If it was closed or canceled, use MSI Support or MSI Center instead. See MSI’s driver update guidance.

9. Choose the right Intel or Killer driver
Intel generic driver versus MSI driver
For Intel wireless adapters, start with the MSI product-page driver for normal operation and MSI-specific compatibility. Consider Windows Update for routine certified updates, or Intel’s generic driver when MSI has no suitable update or troubleshooting requires a newer package. Intel’s generic driver does not apply to Qualcomm, MediaTek, AMD, or Killer adapters.
MSI describes its package as the verified version for the product; Intel provides generic drivers that may not include MSI-specific customizations. Intel recommends the computer manufacturer’s driver for OEM compatibility. Read Intel’s guidance.
Special procedure for Killer adapters
For MSI notebooks using Killer AX1550, AX1650, or AX1675 adapters, follow MSI’s Killer-specific procedure rather than treating the package as an ordinary Intel driver:
- Disconnect the Internet.
- Open Settings → Apps → Apps & features, search for Killer, and uninstall Killer Control Center and related Killer driver suites.
- Restart when prompted.
- In Device Manager, check Network adapters and Other devices.
- If a Killer device remains, uninstall it and enable Attempt to remove the driver for this device if available. Repeat as MSI instructs until the old package is removed as far as Windows allows.
- Install the appropriate MSI Killer driver and restart.
- If offered, enable the option to download Killer Control Center through Microsoft Store.
Older Killer Wireless 1525, 1535, and 1435 adapters use the Windows built-in driver according to MSI’s Killer guidance; do not apply the newer installation procedure to them without checking MSI’s instructions.

10. Fix Wi-Fi after installing the driver
Wi-Fi is still missing
- Turn off Airplane mode and check the laptop’s wireless key or switch.
- Make sure the adapter is enabled in Device Manager.
- Confirm the package matches the adapter manufacturer and MSI model.
- Check Device Manager for an Unknown device.
- Check BIOS settings for a disabled wireless device.
If Windows does not detect the adapter anywhere in Device Manager, a driver reinstall may not help. The problem may involve BIOS settings, firmware, or hardware.
The installer reports that the driver is incompatible
Check that you selected the exact MSI model and Windows version, and that the package is for the adapter’s manufacturer. An OEM-customized driver can also conflict with a generic package. Return to the MSI product page and verify the download before trying another driver.
The old driver comes back immediately
Windows may reinstall an inbox or Windows Update driver. Disconnect Ethernet and Wi-Fi before removal, then install the saved MSI package before reconnecting.
Reset Windows networking
If the driver is installed but networking remains corrupted, use Windows 11’s network reset:

FAQ
How do I know which MSI Wi-Fi driver to download?
Open Device Manager, expand Network adapters, and record the wireless adapter name. Then find your exact MSI model on MSI Support, select your Windows version, and download the matching Wireless LAN package.
Can I install an Intel Wi-Fi driver on any MSI computer?
No. MSI computers can use different wireless hardware. Intel packages apply to Intel adapters only; start with the MSI package for your exact model.
Why is there no setup.exe in my MSI Wi-Fi download?
MSI uses several package formats. Look for another executable, Install.bat, or an INF file, and follow the corresponding installation method described above.
Should I uninstall the old Wi-Fi driver before downloading the new one?
No. Download and save the replacement first. Removing the existing driver can temporarily prevent Windows from recognizing the adapter.
Why does Device Manager say the best driver is already installed?
Device Manager may be comparing the installed driver only with drivers available to Windows or Windows Update. Run the MSI installer or use Browse my computer for drivers with the extracted package.
Why does my MSI computer still have no Wi-Fi after installing the driver?
Check Airplane mode, the wireless key, and whether the adapter is enabled in Device Manager. If it does not appear there at all, Windows may not be detecting the hardware; investigate BIOS settings or hardware rather than repeatedly reinstalling the driver.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Can MSI Center update my Wi-Fi driver?
Often. Open MSI Center, MSI Center Pro, or Dragon Center and select Support → Live Update → Scan. Some downloads only extract the package, so you may need to run its installer manually.
The Bottom Line
Download the Wi-Fi driver from the support page for your exact MSI model and match it to the adapter shown in Device Manager. Extract the package before installing it, since MSI may provide an executable, Install.bat, or INF file. For a clean installation, save the replacement first, disconnect the network, remove the old driver, install the MSI package, and restart.
Use Windows Update or MSI software for convenience, but keep the MSI product-page driver as your main reference. If the adapter is absent from Device Manager, investigate device detection, BIOS settings, and hardware.
