To install Fortnite on a Windows PC or laptop, download Epic Games Launcher from Epic’s official site, sign in, find Fortnite in the Store, and select GET. Then open Fortnite from your Library, choose an install location, and select Install. Check your PC against Epic’s system requirements first; meeting the minimum does not mean the game will run at its highest settings.
Check whether your PC can run Fortnite
Epic publishes separate requirements for Fortnite and for Epic Games Launcher. The launcher’s 4 GB RAM requirement is not Fortnite’s minimum requirement.
To check your PC’s specifications, open Start, search for System Information, and open it. In System Summary, review your operating system, processor, and memory. Under Components, select Display to inspect your graphics adapter. Compare these details with Epic’s Fortnite PC system requirements.

These specifications are published by Epic Games Support. Epic cautions: “If you just meet the minimum system requirements, Fortnite will run on your machine, but probably not on the highest settings.” Epic’s minimum-requirements line names Windows 10 editions; its recommended and Epic Quality Presets specifications list Windows 10/11 64-bit.

- Go to Epic Games’ official website.
- Click Download.
- Run the downloaded Epic Games Launcher installer.
- Follow the setup prompts to install the launcher.
Use Epic’s official download flow rather than an unofficial installer or third-party download site.

Install Fortnite on a Windows PC or laptop
- Start Epic Games Launcher.
- Sign in with your Epic Games account, or create one if needed.
- Open Store and search for Fortnite.
- Open the Fortnite game tile and click GET.
- Open Library and choose Fortnite.
- If prompted, read and accept the applicable terms.
- Select an install folder and click Install.
- When installation finishes, launch Fortnite from the Launcher.
Epic lists C:\Program Files\Epic Games as the default installation location. You can select another suitable location during setup.
Compatibility notes
Epic says Fortnite is not supported on non-native operating systems, including Windows installed through Parallels on a Mac, Linux devices, virtual machines, or another non-natively installed operating system. See Epic’s compatibility guidance.

If your PC only just meets the minimum requirements, Epic suggests reducing graphics settings and disabling background applications. If it falls below minimum requirements, Epic advises using a different device or upgrading the hardware. Epic also points users who cannot meet hardware requirements toward cloud streaming options; availability and terms depend on the service and region.

- Verify Fortnite’s game files in Epic Games Launcher.
- Clear the Epic Games Launcher cache.
- Update your video drivers.
- Run Epic Games Launcher as an administrator.
- If the problem persists, consult Epic’s troubleshooting guidance for further steps, including reinstalling the Launcher or Fortnite.
For cache clearing, exit the Launcher, press Windows key + R, enter %localappdata%, and press Enter. Open EpicGamesLauncher\Saved and delete any webcache folders present, then restart the Launcher. Do not delete the entire Saved folder.
