Before downloading, check that your computer meets Google’s requirements: Intel processor systems need Windows 10 or later and an SSE3-capable Intel Pentium 4 or later; ARM systems need Windows 11 or later.
Before downloading Chrome
Google lists different requirements for Intel and ARM systems. For Intel processor systems, Chrome requires Windows 10 or later and an Intel Pentium 4 or later that supports SSE3. For ARM processor systems, it requires Windows 11 or later. See Google’s Chrome download and system requirements for details.
Also make sure you have an internet connection and can approve software installation if Windows requests permission. Download Chrome from Google’s official page rather than a third-party download site.

How to download and install Chrome on Windows 11
- Open Microsoft Edge. Edge is included with Windows 11. Select its taskbar icon, or open Start and search for Microsoft Edge.
- Go to https://www.google.com/chrome/.
- Select Download Chrome and download the installation file.
- Open the downloaded file. In Edge, you can select the download notification or open Settings and more (the three dots) > Downloads.
- If Windows asks whether you want to run the file, select Run.
- If User Account Control asks whether to allow the app to make changes, verify the publisher and select Yes.
- Follow the on-screen installation instructions. Chrome should open after installation finishes.
You can then sign in with a Google Account, import information from another browser if prompted, or use Chrome without signing in. A normal installation does not require Command Prompt or PowerShell.
Where is the Chrome installer in Windows 11?
Edge usually saves downloaded files in your user Downloads folder. To find the installer in Edge:
- Open Edge.
- Select Settings and more (the three dots).
- Select Downloads.
- Select the Chrome installation file in the list.
To change where Edge saves downloads, open Settings and more > Settings > Downloads and change the location.

How to make Chrome the default browser
Installing Chrome does not automatically make it your default browser. This is an optional Windows setting:

- Select Apps > Default apps.
- Search for and select Google Chrome.
- Select Set default, then review the file-type and link-type assignments shown by Windows.

Installing Chrome on Windows 11 in S mode
Windows S mode restricts installation to apps available in the Microsoft Store. Google’s troubleshooting guidance says you need to switch out of S mode to install an app that is not available there. Find the Switch out of S mode page in Microsoft Store and follow its instructions. Review Microsoft’s information carefully before switching; Google warns that switching back to Windows 10 or 11 may not be possible.

After switching out of S mode, return to Google’s Chrome download page and follow the standard installation steps above.
How to install Chrome offline
If the installer cannot download successfully on the Windows 11 computer, Google provides an offline-installer route. Download the installer on another computer, choose the target operating system under Chrome family > Other platforms, then move the file to the Windows 11 computer and follow the installation instructions.
- On a computer with internet access, open Google’s Chrome installation help page.
- Choose the offline installer for the target computer’s operating system under Chrome family > Other platforms.
- Download the file, move it to the Windows 11 computer using an available transfer method, and open it.
- Follow the on-screen installation instructions.
Use Google’s installer rather than a file-sharing site or unofficial download page.

What to do if Chrome will not install

After Chrome is installed
Open Chrome from the Start menu by searching for Google Chrome. You can choose whether to make it the default browser in Windows settings. Chrome normally updates in the background. To check for an update, open More > Help > About Google Chrome and select Relaunch if offered. See Google’s Chrome update instructions.

Is Google Chrome free to download on Windows 11?
Yes. Google says Chrome is available to download and install at no charge. Download it from Google’s official website.

Can I install Chrome without Command Prompt?
Yes. Download the installer from Google’s official page, open it, approve any Windows prompts, and follow the on-screen instructions.
Can I make Chrome my default browser?
Yes. After installation, open Start > Settings > Apps > Default apps, select Google Chrome, and choose Set default. Review the assignments shown by Windows.
Can I install Chrome in Windows S mode?
Google’s troubleshooting guidance says to switch out of S mode to install an app that is not available in Microsoft Store. Find the Switch out of S mode page in Microsoft Store and review the consequences before confirming.
What if I cannot download Chrome on the Windows 11 computer?
