For a standard Windows 10 computer running Office 2013 or later, the recommended Pyidaungsu release is 2.5.3. Download the Regular, Bold, and Numbers font files from the official Myanmar Unicode Migration website, install the .ttf files, then add a Myanmar keyboard separately if you need to type Burmese.
Pyidaungsu is free to download and is licensed under the SIL Open Font License. The font download itself does not install a keyboard or convert existing Zawgyi text.
Which Pyidaungsu version should you download?
Choose the version based on the Windows and Microsoft Office combination you use:

For Windows 10 with Office 2013, 2016, 2019, Microsoft 365, or a later version, use Pyidaungsu 2.5.3. Downloading only the Regular file will not install the Bold or Numbers font faces, so download all three when they are available.

Windows 10 support note: Windows 10 22H2 was the final general Windows 10 release. Microsoft ended support for Windows 10 Home and Pro on October 14, 2025. The steps below still apply to an existing Windows 10 installation, but upgrading to a supported Windows version is preferable where possible.
Download Pyidaungsu for Windows 10
- Open the official Myanmar Unicode Migration font-download page.
- In the operating-system selector, choose Windows.
- Choose the Microsoft Office version installed on your computer. For a normal Windows 10 system with Office 2013 or later, choose the applicable Windows 10/Office 2013-or-later option.
- Find the Font Only Setup section.
- Download these three files:
- Pyidaungsu-2.5.3_Regular.ttf
- Pyidaungsu-2.5.3_Bold.ttf
- Pyidaungsu-2.5.3_Numbers.ttf
The page also provides an All-in-One Zip file and a User Manual PDF. Use the individual font files if you only need the typeface. Use the All-in-One option only if you also want the additional bundled setup components.
Install the downloaded font files
Windows does not require a command-line command to install Pyidaungsu.
- Open File Explorer and go to your Downloads folder.
- Right-click Pyidaungsu-2.5.3_Regular.ttf.
- Select Install. If Windows displays Install for all users and you have administrator access, you can choose that option instead.
- Repeat the process for the Bold and Numbers files.
- Close and reopen Word or any other application that was running during installation.
You can also double-click a .ttf file and select Install in the font preview window.

Check that Pyidaungsu is installed
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type fonts and press Enter.
- Use the search box in the Fonts folder and search for Pyidaungsu.
- Confirm that the installed Regular, Bold, and Numbers faces appear.
In Microsoft Word, you can also open a document, select some text, and choose Pyidaungsu from the font list.
Add a Myanmar keyboard in Windows 10
Installing a font gives Windows the glyphs needed to display Myanmar text. It does not add a way to type that text. To use the built-in Windows 10 Myanmar keyboard:
- Open the Start menu and search for Language.
- Select Language settings.
- Choose Add a language.
- Search for bur.
- Select မြန်မာစာ.
- Click Next, then select Install.
Switch between installed keyboards by pressing Windows key + Spacebar. Select the Myanmar keyboard rather than a Zawgyi keyboard when entering Unicode text.
The Pyidaungsu guide documents a Visual Order Keyboard for Windows 10 that requires OS Build 1809. Build 1809 is obsolete, so the current built-in Windows keyboard is generally the more practical choice on a maintained Windows 10 installation. Keyman, KeyMagic, and other Unicode-compatible input methods are alternatives.

Fix common Pyidaungsu problems
Office 2010 displays Myanmar text incorrectly
Do not use Pyidaungsu 2.5 with Office 2010 if the text renders incorrectly. The Pyidaungsu guide directs Office 2010 users to install Pyidaungsu 1.8 instead. Remove or disable conflicting font versions before testing again.
Office 2013 or 2016 shows malformed text
Use Pyidaungsu 2.5 on Windows 8 or Windows 10. If the text is still incorrect:
- Select the affected text in Word.
- Press Ctrl + D to open the Font dialog box.
- Open the Advanced tab.
- Set the relevant option to Standard and Contextual.
- Enable Use Contextual Alternates.
- Select OK.
Text appears as squares or blank spaces
Squares or empty spaces normally mean that the application cannot find a suitable Myanmar font. Confirm that Pyidaungsu appears in the Windows Fonts folder and that the application was restarted after installation.
If Pyidaungsu is installed but characters are still malformed, the problem may be the application’s text-rendering engine or incorrectly ordered Unicode code points rather than the font file itself.

Zawgyi text still looks wrong
Pyidaungsu does not convert Zawgyi-encoded text into Unicode. It only supplies a font for displaying characters. Existing Zawgyi content must be converted with a suitable Zawgyi-to-Unicode conversion tool, and new text must be entered using a Unicode keyboard.
A Zawgyi keyboard can also produce incorrect output when you intend to type Unicode. Press Windows key + Spacebar and choose the Myanmar Unicode keyboard, such as Pyidaungsu MM where available.
Remove Pyidaungsu
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter fonts and press Enter.
- Search for Pyidaungsu.
- Select the font face you want to remove and press Delete.
If Windows says the font is in use, close Word and other applications that may be using it. Restart Windows and try the deletion again.

Therefore, downloading a font-only .ttf file does not automatically enable Burmese typing. Install or select a Unicode keyboard separately.

Is Pyidaungsu free for Windows 10?
Yes. The official Myanmar Unicode Migration page lists Pyidaungsu downloads under Font Only Setup, and Pyidaungsu is licensed under the SIL Open Font License.
Which Pyidaungsu version is best for Windows 10?
Use Pyidaungsu 2.5.3 for Windows 10 with Office 2013 or later. Use Pyidaungsu 1.8.3 if you are using Office 2010 or earlier and encounter rendering problems.
Why can I read Myanmar text but not type it after installing Pyidaungsu?
A TTF file installs a font, not a keyboard layout. Add the Windows Myanmar keyboard through Language settings, or install a Unicode-compatible input method such as Keyman or KeyMagic.
Should I download all three Pyidaungsu 2.5.3 files?
Yes. Download Regular, Bold, and Numbers if you want all of the corresponding font faces. Installing only Regular does not install Bold or Numbers.

Does Pyidaungsu convert Zawgyi text to Unicode?
No. Font installation does not convert the encoding of existing text. Zawgyi content needs conversion, and new Unicode text must be entered with a Unicode keyboard.
How do I uninstall Pyidaungsu?
Press Windows key + R, enter fonts, press Enter, search for Pyidaungsu, select the font, and press Delete. Restart Windows first if the font is reported as being in use.
