It brought the OS to build 19045.3758 and added the Copilot in Windows (preview) taskbar button. Microsoft offered it through Windows Update’s optional updates and as a standalone package in the Microsoft Update Catalog at the time. Windows 10 support ended October 14, 2025, so KB5032278 is historical guidance—not a current security update recommendation.
Check whether KB5032278 is the update you need
Microsoft released KB5032278 for Windows 10 version 22H2 editions on November 30, 2023. It was an optional, non-security preview; it was not the December 2023 security release. Installation resulted in OS build 19045.3758. Microsoft’s KB5032278 release notes describe the package and its release-time availability.
The update’s most visible change was a Copilot in Windows (preview) button on the right side of the taskbar. The release also included fixes and changes involving app defaults, Windows Update notifications, time-zone data, MDM policy management, Internet Explorer mode, WebView2Standalone XAML controls, font handling, game performance and video stutter, protected-content windows, Defender for Endpoint Conditional Access, Windows Hello PIN messaging, volatile notifications, and Windows LAPS.
The package included servicing stack update version 19045.3745 as well as the cumulative update. A servicing stack update improves the component Windows uses to install updates.

Download or install it using the release-time routes
Microsoft documented Windows Update or Microsoft Update, the Microsoft Update Catalog, and manual WSUS import as distribution routes when KB5032278 was released. Those instructions do not establish that the standalone package is still listed in the Catalog today. To check, search the official Microsoft Update Catalog for “KB5032278”; verify that any result matches Windows 10 version 22H2 before downloading it.
Windows Update: easiest for an individual PC
- Open Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Select View optional updates or the Optional updates available notice, if shown.
- Look for KB5032278, select it, and choose the install option. Restart if Windows requests it.
Microsoft described this as an optional update at release. The update may no longer appear through Windows Update, and its historical listing is not a guarantee of present availability.

Microsoft Update Catalog: standalone package
- Search the Microsoft Update Catalog for KB5032278.
- Check the result’s title and product details to confirm it is for Windows 10 version 22H2 and the correct architecture for the target device.
- Download the matching package, open the downloaded update file, and follow the installer prompts. Restart if required.
If no matching result appears, do not substitute a different KB number or an unofficial download. Microsoft’s release notes confirm the Catalog route at release but do not confirm current Catalog availability for this exact update.
WSUS: administrator deployment
Microsoft said Windows Update for Business did not offer this preview directly; WSUS administrators could manually import it. That is an administrator-controlled deployment route, not a separate consumer download method. Follow the organization’s update approval and deployment process.

Check the prerequisites for older or offline servicing
Microsoft specified prerequisite servicing stack updates for certain Catalog, WSUS, and offline image scenarios. These requirements matter when preparing older systems or servicing images; they are not a reason to install this 2023 preview on a currently supported Windows release.
- Catalog or WSUS installation: If the device did not have the May 11, 2021 cumulative update KB5003173 or later, Microsoft required standalone servicing stack update KB5005260, dated August 10, 2021, first.
- Offline OS image servicing: If the image did not have the March 22, 2022 cumulative update KB5011543 or later, Microsoft required standalone servicing stack update KB5014032 first.
KB5032278 itself was distributed as a combined servicing stack update and cumulative update package.

Know the BitLocker issue and uninstall limitation
BitLocker MDM error 65000
Microsoft documented a specific issue in which some devices could show error 65000 for the Require Device Encryption setting. It involved MDM policies using FixedDrivesEncryptionType or SystemDrivesEncryptionType to enforce encryption type on OS or fixed drives, with full encryption or used-space-only encryption selected. The release notes did not provide a workaround. The issue does not mean every BitLocker installation is affected.
Removing the update
Because the package combines the servicing stack update (SSU) and cumulative update (LCU), Microsoft warned that WUSA with /uninstall cannot remove the combined package. Its release notes document DISM /Remove-Package to remove the LCU by package name; the SSU cannot be removed. Treat removal as an administrator task and consult the package’s Microsoft documentation before changing a production system.

Understand Windows 10’s current support status
Microsoft ended Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025. Its support notice says that after that date it no longer provides free Windows Update software updates, technical assistance, or security fixes for Windows 10. Microsoft’s later update documentation records subsequent cumulative servicing while identifying version 22H2 as out of support. KB5032278 therefore should not be described as a current security update or recommended as a way to secure a Windows 10 PC. Any later servicing eligibility depends on the applicable program and enrollment; this article does not establish an individual device’s eligibility.
