To install a font from Microsoft Store in Windows 11 or Windows 10, open Settings > Personalization > Fonts, select Get more fonts in Microsoft Store, then choose Get or Buy. Windows installs it automatically, and you can check for it under Available fonts.
The process is almost identical on both versions. Standard Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025; PCs continue to run, but normal feature updates, technical support, and security fixes have ended, except where an applicable Extended Security Updates or Long-Term Servicing arrangement applies. Install a font from Microsoft Store
- Open Settings. Select it from Start or press Windows key + I.
- Go to Personalization > Fonts.
- Select Get more fonts in Microsoft Store.
- Choose the font you want to install.
- Select Get for a free font or Buy for a paid font.
After you select Get or complete the purchase, Microsoft Store downloads and installs the font automatically. You normally do not need to download a ZIP file or run a separate installer.
Open the Fonts page with a command
If you cannot find the setting, press Windows key + R, enter ms-settings:fonts, and select OK. This opens Settings > Personalization > Fonts in Windows 11 and Windows 10.

Check that the font was installed
- Open Settings > Personalization > Fonts.
- Scroll to Available fonts.
- Use the search box to enter the font name.
Selecting a font in this list lets you preview it. Windows may also provide options to hide or uninstall it. If the font does not appear immediately, wait for the Store installation to finish and search again.
Make a newly installed font appear in an app
Applications use fonts made available by Windows; fonts are not installed separately inside Microsoft Word or another individual program.
If an application was open while you installed the font, close it completely and open it again so it can refresh its font list. Then look for the font by its family name, which may differ from the name shown in the Store.
Some applications do not support custom fonts. If the font appears in Settings > Personalization > Fonts but not in your expected program, test it in another application that supports font selection. If it works elsewhere, the original application may have a limitation or need refreshing.

What to do when the font is not listed in Microsoft Store
A Store listing may not be visible to every user. Microsoft Store content can vary by country or region, device compatibility, and current product availability. A font that appears on another computer may therefore be unavailable on yours.
Check these items:
- Confirm that the PC has an internet connection.
- Sign in to Microsoft Store and confirm that the Store itself works.
- Restart Windows if you recently installed Windows updates.
- Check that Windows has the correct date, time, location, and region.
- Confirm that the font is still available for your region and device.
Regional availability, compatibility, authorization, recent updates, and a product being withdrawn or temporarily unavailable can all prevent Store content from appearing or installing.
Fix Microsoft Store when it will not open
Start by clearing the Store cache:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type wsreset.exe.
- Select OK.
A blank Command Prompt window should appear. It normally closes after approximately 10 seconds, and Microsoft Store should open automatically.
Also install the latest available Windows updates and verify the computer’s time and location settings. On Windows 10, versions earlier than build 15063 need to be updated or the Microsoft Store website should be used instead.

Repair or reset Microsoft Store
If clearing the cache does not help, use the app recovery controls:
- Select Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Microsoft Store.
- Select the three-dot menu or the app’s options, then choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair.
- If the problem remains, select Reset.
Repair attempts to fix the Store without removing its app data. Reset is a stronger recovery step. The exact recovery options can vary between Windows versions and apps.
Install a font from a downloaded file
If the font is not available through Microsoft Store, you can install a font obtained from another source. Use a trusted source and check the font’s license before using it commercially.

- If the download is a .zip file, right-click it and select Extract or Extract All.
- Open the extracted folder.
- Right-click the .ttf or .otf file.
- Select Install to install it for your account.
- Choose Install for all users if the font must be available to every account on the PC. You may need administrator permission.
You can also open a font file to preview it and then select the installation option in the preview window. After installation, find it on the same Settings > Personalization > Fonts page.
Download fonts for additional writing systems
Windows has a separate option for fonts used by additional languages and writing systems. This is not the same as installing one font listing from Microsoft Store.
- Open Settings > Personalization > Fonts.
- Under Related settings, select Download fonts for all languages.
- Select OK to confirm.
This can download a larger collection of language-specific fonts, so it may take longer than installing a single font.

Where are Microsoft Store fonts installed?
They are installed through Windows rather than inside a particular application. Once installed, they appear under Settings > Personalization > Fonts and can be used by applications that support custom fonts.
Why does my new font not appear in Word?
Close and reopen Word so it refreshes its font list. If the font is visible in Windows Settings but still missing, test it in another font-supporting application because some programs have their own limitations.
Why can’t I find a particular font in Microsoft Store?
The listing may be unavailable in your country or region, incompatible with the device, temporarily unavailable, or hidden because the Store needs updates, authorization, or correct time and location settings.
What does wsreset.exe do?
