Check that your Mac meets the listed requirements—macOS 12 or higher, a 64-bit Intel or Apple Silicon processor, and 8 GB of RAM for optimal performance—before installing.
Check whether your Mac is supported
Exodus lists these Mac requirements:

To check your macOS version and processor, select Apple menu → About This Mac. Exodus may run on unsupported macOS versions, but it does not guarantee performance or provide support for them. If your Mac is below macOS 12, update macOS first if your hardware supports the update.
Choose the correct Exodus installer
Go to exodus.com/download and find the Desktop section. Choose the button that matches your Mac:
- Download for Mac (Apple Silicon) — for Macs with Apple silicon.
- Download for Mac (Intel) — for Macs with Intel processors.
The current page does not offer separate M1, M2, or M3 downloads; those Macs use the Apple Silicon installer. Exodus identifies exodus.com/download as its official download source. Avoid third-party download sites, which may host scam versions. The current Desktop installation instructions describe a direct download, not a Mac App Store installation.

Download and install Exodus on Mac

Open exodus.com/download in your browser.

Under Desktop, click Download for Mac (Apple Silicon) or Download for Mac (Intel), depending on your processor.

When the download finishes, open the downloaded Mac installer.

In the installer window, drag the Exodus application to the Applications folder.

Open Finder, select Applications, and double-click Exodus. You can also launch it from the macOS app launcher.

Exodus’s current Mac instructions do not specify an additional command, Terminal step, or installer wizard.

Verify the download before opening it
macOS Gatekeeper checks application signatures automatically unless Gatekeeper has been disabled. If macOS says Exodus is from an “unidentified developer,” do not open it; Exodus says the copy may be unsigned or illegitimate.
For a more detailed check, use Terminal to inspect the installer’s signing certificate. Replace the placeholder with the installer path; you can drag the installer from Finder into Terminal to insert the path. Terminal may ask for permission to access the folder containing the file.

Compare the result with the entry for the exact file you downloaded on Exodus’s 26.7.30 release-hashes page. Match both the file type and processor edition.

If the signing details or hash do not match, delete the download and get a fresh copy from the official Exodus download page. Do not bypass Gatekeeper to force the application to open.
Open Exodus and secure the wallet
After launching Exodus, follow the wallet’s on-screen setup. Exodus is self-custodial and states that it does not store your personal information or wallet files on its servers.
Back up the wallet using its 12-word secret key, which can restore the wallet on another device:
- Write the words down carefully and keep them in the correct order.
- Store the backup somewhere private and protected from loss or damage.
- Never share the words or enter them into a website, form, or support chat.
- Do not rely on the Mac installation as a backup; reinstalling the application does not replace the recovery phrase.
Back up the secret key through Exodus’s wallet interface. Anyone who obtains the words may be able to restore and control the wallet.

What works without an internet connection?
Exodus can open offline and display the portfolio, but prices may be outdated. Internet access is required to send and receive blockchain assets and to swap through third-party exchange API providers.
Fixes for common installation problems
The download button is for the wrong Mac edition
Return to Apple menu → About This Mac and identify the processor. Choose the Apple Silicon button for an Apple-chip Mac and the Intel button for an Intel Mac. Do not use a third-party installer to compensate for a wrong selection.
macOS says Exodus is from an unidentified developer
Stop the installation. Do not use Open Anyway or disable Gatekeeper for an installer that produces this warning. Download a fresh copy from exodus.com/download and, if necessary, check its certificate with the codesign command.
The application will not launch or performs poorly
Confirm that your Mac runs macOS 12 or higher and has 8 GB of RAM for optimal performance. Exodus does not guarantee performance or provide support for older, unsupported macOS versions.
The wallet opens but sending or swapping is unavailable
Check your internet connection. Exodus can show the portfolio offline, but sending and receiving blockchain assets and swapping are unavailable without connectivity.

You installed the app but cannot find it
Open Finder and select Applications. The installation is complete after the Exodus application has been copied there. Launch it from that folder or from the macOS app launcher.
