On your PS5, open Games home > Game Library > Your Collection, select a game you own, then choose Download. The game installs automatically as it downloads; some titles may let you start playing before the rest has finished copying.
Download a game you already own
- From Games home, open Game Library.
- Select Your Collection.
- Choose the game, then select Download.
PlayStation Support says the game installs automatically after you select Download. Depending on the title, part of it may become playable while the remainder copies; not every game offers this option. See PlayStation’s instructions for downloading games and add-ons.

Buy and download a game you do not own
- From Games home, open PlayStation Store.
- Search for the game and select it.
- Choose Buy, then Confirm Purchase.
- Select Download to begin installing it.
A Store purchase and a library download are separate steps: complete checkout first, then start the download. The exact price and availability depend on the listing shown in your Store.
Check storage if the download will not start
On the PS5, go to Settings > Storage to see available space. PlayStation says game data can be kept on console storage, USB extended storage, or an M.2 SSD. A PS5 game stored on USB extended storage must be moved to console storage or M.2 SSD storage before you can play it. Refer to PlayStation’s PS5 storage management guide for storage options and instructions.

- Delete games or apps you no longer need, or move supported game data to another storage location.
- Deleting a purchased game does not remove your access to download it again from your library.
- If you need more capacity, a compatible M.2 SSD is an optional expansion; it is not required to download a game. Check PlayStation’s current compatibility and installation requirements before choosing one.
Start a download remotely with PlayStation App
If your PS5 and PlayStation App are already paired, open Game Library > Purchased in the app, select the game, and start the download. The console must have Stay Connected to the Internet enabled and be in Rest Mode for remote downloads to work. Remote downloading does not bypass the console’s available-storage requirements. Troubleshoot a missing, locked, or stalled game
- Confirm the purchasing account. Make sure you are signed in to the account that bought the game. If it is missing, check that account’s transaction history.
- Check free space. Open Settings > Storage and free or rearrange space if needed.
- Restore licenses for missing or locked content. Go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. PlayStation says this does not affect your data and may help with a padlock or missing game or add-on. It is not the stated fix for a lock caused by an expired PlayStation Plus subscription. See PlayStation’s license restoration steps.
- For broader download or startup errors, check PlayStation service status and system software, then follow the guidance for the specific error. Depending on the issue, PlayStation’s troubleshooting may include restarting the console, checking the game’s storage location, restoring licenses, or deleting and downloading the game again. If another account owns the game, Console Sharing and Offline Play may also be relevant. Start with PlayStation’s game troubleshooting resources rather than assuming one fix applies to every error.
