There is no universal camera-and-microphone switch for smart glasses. The controls depend on the model: Ray-Ban Meta offers a voice-control setting and a physical power switch, while Apple Vision Pro lets you manage camera and microphone access app by app. Phone-level permissions do not necessarily disable hardware on the glasses themselves.
First, identify what you want to disable
A setting that stops voice interaction is not necessarily a microphone hardware cutoff, and an app permission is not the same as powering down the glasses. Use the control that matches your goal, and check the current instructions for your exact brand, model, and software version.
Ray-Ban Meta: turn off Voice Control or power down
Turn off Voice Control
- Open the Meta AI app.
- Open Settings, then tap Voice.
- Turn Voice Control off.
Meta describes this as the setting to turn voice on or off. It limits voice interaction; the FAQ does not identify it as a global microphone permission or hardware kill switch. See Ray-Ban | Meta FAQs.
Turn off the glasses
- Slide the power switch on the left frame toward the rear/off position.
- Check that the red indicator appears next to the switch; the FAQ identifies this as the off state.
This powers down the device rather than selectively revoking camera or microphone access for an app. The FAQ also documents a Microphone adjustment toggle under Settings > Glasses & privacy > Your glasses > Microphone troubleshooting; it is for microphone performance troubleshooting, not a privacy-off control. - Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Apple Vision Pro: manage access for each app
- Open Settings > Privacy & Security.
- Choose Camera or Microphone.
- Turn access on or off for each listed app.
Apps must request permission before using these features. Vision Pro displays a green dot for screen recording, view sharing, or Persona Virtual Camera use, and an orange dot when an app or feature uses the microphone without Persona Virtual Camera. These are per-app permissions, not a general control for other smart-glasses products. Apple Support: Control access to hardware features, your surroundings, and more on Apple Vision Pro.
What the Ray-Ban Meta capture light does—and does not—tell you
Meta’s official FAQ, updated in July 2026, says: “The capture LED has no off switch.” Meta also says covering or disabling the LED automatically disables the camera. Do not cover the light to try to record without an indicator: according to Meta, that action disables the camera. The light blinks while content is being captured for the gallery. The indicator is not a complete signal for every camera-related function. Ray-Ban’s FAQ says newer models may use the camera for some AI features without lighting the capture LED; first-generation Ray-Ban Meta glasses may light it for some AI features because of hardware limitations. A dark LED therefore does not prove that the camera is unused. Meta’s responsible-innovation guidance also advises asking permission before capturing people and avoiding sensitive locations. Ray-Ban | Meta FAQs; Meta: Responsible Innovation in AI Glasses & Quest.
Meta says captures remain on the glasses until the wearer chooses to import them to a phone. That describes the import step; it should not be read as a guarantee about all processing or data handling. Meta’s AI Glasses: Your Questions Answered; Meta: Responsible Innovation in AI Glasses & Quest.

How the documented controls differ
| Device and control | Scope | Camera or microphone | Generation and indicator |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ray-Ban Meta Voice Control off | Limits voice interaction | Voice feature; not documented as a global microphone cutoff or camera permission | Ray-Ban FAQ documents the setting; no indicator behavior for this toggle is stated |
| Ray-Ban Meta physical power switch off | Whole-device shutdown | Device functions, rather than a selective camera or microphone permission | FAQ says red indicator next to the switch means the glasses are off |
| Apple Vision Pro app permission | Per-app access | Camera or microphone, managed separately | Vision Pro shows green or orange dots for specified uses; see Apple’s permission guidance |
| Ray-Ban Meta capture LED | Capture indicator, not an access toggle | Gallery capture indicator; covering or disabling it automatically disables the camera, according to Meta | AI camera behavior varies: newer models may use the camera without the LED, while first-generation glasses may illuminate it for some AI features |
If you use another smart-glasses brand
- Find the exact model and software version in the maker’s app or device settings.
- Consult that manufacturer’s current privacy and support instructions for camera and microphone controls.
- Do not assume that changing permissions on a paired phone disables the glasses’ own camera or microphone.
- Distinguish app-specific access, voice features, device power, and recording indicators; they control different things.
