You can make Windows 11 25H2 quieter and remove the consumer Copilot app where uninstall is available, but there is no documented universal switch that removes every AI feature. Recommendations, the Copilot app, and Copilot+ PC features have separate controls. Start by identifying which one you want to change.
What “taking the AI out” of Windows 11 means
Windows 11 has several separate things people may call AI or clutter: personalized offers and recommendations, the consumer Microsoft Copilot app, and features such as Recall or Click to Do on eligible Copilot+ PCs. Hiding or uninstalling one does not remove the others.
Windows 11 25H2 is not a clean dividing line for feature availability. Microsoft says it includes features and fixes delivered in earlier cumulative updates for 24H2; some may already be enabled on 24H2, while others were dormant until the feature update. Availability can also be staged. Its 25H2 documentation identifies the Agent in Settings, Click to Do, improved Windows search, and AI actions in File Explorer among features subject to temporary enterprise control during the 24H2-to-25H2 transition.
First identify your device and goal
- Personal or managed PC: Work or school administrators may control app installation and Windows features.
- Standard PC or Copilot+ PC: Some features require Copilot+ PC hardware and may not appear on a standard PC.
- Entry point or capability: Hiding a taskbar entry point is different from uninstalling an app or disabling a specific Windows feature.
- App version: Microsoft’s consumer privacy guidance distinguishes the older Copilot app from a newer version.
How to quiet Windows recommendations and offers
To reduce Windows tips, recommendations, and personalized offers, open Settings > Privacy & security > Recommendations & offers and review the available controls. Labels can vary: on devices without the latest updates, the older General privacy page may still appear. Microsoft explains the current page in its Recommendations & offers privacy guide.

Microsoft says personalized offers may include tips, ads, and recommendations for Microsoft and third-party products and services. They can be informed by device and usage data, diagnostic data, account information, and information from other Microsoft products, subject to your settings. Review each available setting rather than assuming one switch controls every recommendation.
Advertising ID does not remove ads
The advertising ID setting applies to apps that use Windows advertising ID. Turning it off may make those ads less relevant, but Microsoft says it does not reduce their number and does not cover other methods of interest-based advertising. How to remove the Microsoft Copilot app
If your goal is to remove the consumer Copilot app, first check whether Windows offers an uninstall option. Microsoft documents this route for enterprise users; its availability may depend on the device and its management.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Microsoft Copilot in the list.
- Select the app’s three-dot menu, then choose Uninstall, if that option is available.
- Afterward, return to Installed apps and check whether Copilot is still listed.
For organization-managed devices, Microsoft documents administrator options including AppLocker and a PowerShell removal method in its Windows and Microsoft Copilot Chat management guidance. These are managed-device procedures, not routine instructions for every home PC. Microsoft recommends AppLocker rather than the legacy Turn Off Windows Copilot policy, which is subject to near-term deprecation.

Removing the consumer app does not establish that Microsoft 365 Copilot, browser-based Copilot, AI functions in apps such as Photos or Paint, Recall, or other Windows AI features are gone. Treat each as a separate product or capability.
How to check and manage Copilot+ PC features
Some Windows AI features are tied to Copilot+ PC hardware. Microsoft lists Recall, Click to Do, improved Windows search with semantic indexing, and the Settings agent as Copilot+ PC features. Microsoft describes the relevant NPU class as capable of more than 40 trillion operations per second; that is a published hardware specification, not a benchmark for every task or a guarantee that a feature is enabled on a particular PC.

Review Recall separately
Check Settings > Privacy & security > Recall & snapshots for Recall controls if the page is available on your device. Microsoft states: “By default, Recall is disabled and removed on managed devices.” That statement applies to managed devices; it should not be read as a universal default for personal PCs. Eligibility and availability can vary, so check your own settings and organization’s guidance.
Check other named capabilities individually
For Click to Do, semantic search, the Settings agent, or File Explorer AI actions, look for the relevant feature-specific settings or ask your organization’s administrator if the PC is managed. Their presence and controls can depend on hardware, Windows updates, staged rollout, and policy. Disabling Recall alone does not disable these other capabilities.

What to check after making changes
- Reopen Settings > Apps > Installed apps and verify whether Microsoft Copilot remains listed.
- Return to Recommendations & offers (or the older General page) to confirm the individual settings you changed.
- On a Copilot+ PC, check Recall and any other named AI feature separately.
- If a control is missing or an app cannot be uninstalled, check whether the PC is managed and whether a staged update or device policy affects availability.
These checks confirm the current settings and app listing; they do not guarantee that every entry point will remain absent after future updates or feature rollouts.
