To change Edge’s default text size, open Settings and more (…) > Settings > Appearance, then choose a size under Fonts > Font size. To adjust font style or other available font options, select Customize fonts on the same page. For an individual supported article, Reading mode has separate font controls.
Change Edge’s default font size
The Font size setting changes Edge’s default font size. It is separate from page zoom, which magnifies the page.
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Select Settings and more (…) in the upper-right corner.
- Select Settings.
- Select Appearance.
- Under Fonts, open the Font size dropdown.
- Choose a size.
Microsoft describes this setting as changing Edge’s default font size. Some Appearance controls may differ or be unavailable depending on your Edge version, and websites may use their own styling.

These settings control Edge’s default font behavior; they do not guarantee that every website will use your chosen typeface. A site may define its own fonts or styling.

Both Font size and page zoom are available from Appearance, but they serve different purposes.

When a website ignores your font choice
A website may use its own font or styling, so Edge’s default font preference may not visibly affect it. Try page zoom to magnify the page or use Reading mode if the page supports it.

Microsoft verifies edge://settings/help for opening the About Microsoft Edge page. Its current documentation does not verify edge://settings/fonts as a direct command for opening the Fonts page, so use the Settings menu route instead. Older paths such as Options, Internet options, or Settings > General are not the current documented route.
