Yes. Remember The Milk lets you create a Smart List by saving a search, or by entering criteria directly on the web. Smart Lists are saved criteria-based views: they update automatically as tasks change, while the matching tasks stay in their regular lists.
What a Smart List does
A Smart List collects tasks that match criteria you define. Remember The Milk’s official help says these lists update automatically as tasks change. You might use one to see high-priority tasks, tasks without due dates, tasks tagged for a project, or tasks containing a particular word. Multiple criteria can be combined.
Smart Lists are views, not separate task containers. A task shown in one still belongs to its regular list.
Create a Smart List on the web
Save a search as a Smart List
- Search for the tasks you want using a word, search options, or advanced search operators.
- Review the results to confirm they match your intended criteria.
- In Search Results, make sure no tasks are selected; the save option appears when none are selected.
- Select Save as Smart List, enter a name, and save. The web instructions document this search-first flow.
Enter criteria directly
Alternatively, select the plus icon beside the Smart Lists heading, enter a name and criteria, then add the list. This route is documented alongside the search-and-save method in Remember The Milk’s Smart List help.

Create a Smart List on mobile
Remember The Milk’s iPad help page documents a search-first process:
- Open Search and enter a task term or advanced operators.
- Run the search and review the results.
- On the results screen, tap the title bar and choose Save Smart List.
- Enter a name, optionally change the sort order, and save.
Those controls are documented for iPad; check the current interface on other mobile platforms, where labels or steps may differ.

Choose and combine search criteria
Operators can be typed in the search box or selected through search options, and can also be used for Smart Lists. Remember The Milk’s advanced search help gives examples such as:
list:Work— tasks in the Work listpriority:1— tasks with priority 1status:incomplete— incomplete taskstag:bananas— tasks tagged “bananas”
Combine conditions with AND, alternatives with OR, and exclusions with NOT. Use quotation marks for exact phrases and parentheses to group conditions. For example, priority:1 AND tag:bananas matches tasks that have both priority 1 and the bananas tag.

A reliable way to build a list is to run the query in Search first and inspect the matches, then save it. That lets you catch criteria that are too broad or too narrow before making the search a persistent view.
What happens when you add a task from a Smart List
New tasks added from a Smart List go to your default list, if one is set. If the default list is itself a Smart List, Remember The Milk sends the new task to Inbox instead. Clear criteria, such as a tag or due date, may be applied to a task added from the Smart List. If the task does not meet the list’s criteria, it may disappear from that view immediately.
