Choose WooCommerce when you need a product catalog, cart, checkout, and ongoing order management. A form collects an order submission; a store provides a fuller process for browsing, buying, and managing orders.
Choose between an order form and a WooCommerce store
Start with how customers need to shop and how you need to fulfill orders. A simple form can collect selections and customer details without setting up a full store. WooCommerce is designed to add store functionality to a WordPress site; its setup guide covers creating a store, adding products, and choosing payment options (WooCommerce store guide).

WordPress Learn describes WooCommerce’s core store components as products, a cart, block-based checkout, and order dashboards, and contrasts a full store with lighter approaches (WordPress Learn: WooCommerce). You do not need WooCommerce for every one-off order: use it when its catalog and store-management features solve a real need.
Create a simple order form with a form plugin
The basic pattern is to create a form, add the items and customer-information fields, configure a supported payment provider if you want to collect payment through the form, and publish the form on a WordPress page or post. A WPBeginner tutorial from 2020 demonstrates this workflow with WPForms Pro, item choices, PayPal or Stripe, and the WPForms block (WPBeginner’s WordPress order-form tutorial). Treat it as an illustration rather than current guidance on plugin plans or payment availability; check the form builder’s current documentation for the required plan, supported integrations, and setup steps.

- Install and activate a form plugin that supports the order fields and payment flow you need. Confirm its current plan and payment-integration requirements in the vendor’s documentation.
- Create a billing or order form. Add the customer details you need and fields for customers to choose products or services.
- If you want to accept payment in the form, connect a supported payment provider and configure the payment settings. Make sure the form clearly shows the selected items and amount before submission.
- Create or edit a WordPress page or post, insert the form using the plugin’s block or embed option, and publish the page.
- Submit a test order yourself. Check that the form records the expected details and that the payment flow completes as intended before sharing the page with customers.
This route keeps the buying experience focused on submitting a set of choices. If you need stock controls, shipping or delivery rules, a browsable catalog, or a repeatable cart-and-checkout workflow, evaluate WooCommerce instead.
Set up WooCommerce when you need a store
WooCommerce adds ecommerce features to WordPress. Follow its current store setup guide to create the store, set up products, and select payment options. This is the stronger fit when customers need to browse products, add items to a cart, check out, and place orders that you manage through store dashboards.

Before building the store, decide what products customers will see and how you will handle inventory, shipping or delivery, payment, and order processing. These choices affect how you configure products and checkout; do not enable payment methods or delivery options that you cannot fulfill.
Connect Stripe to WooCommerce
WooCommerce provides a Stripe extension for accepting payments. Its documentation calls it “a versatile way to accept payments on your WooCommerce site” (WooCommerce Stripe extension). Setup requirements and payment-method availability can change, so use the live documentation for eligibility and current platform prerequisites.

Install and activate the extension
- In WordPress, go to Plugins > Add New, find the WooCommerce Stripe Gateway, install it, and activate it. WooCommerce’s Stripe setup instructions cover the current installation and configuration process.
- Go to WooCommerce > Settings > Payments > Stripe to continue setup.
Check eligibility and connect the account
The Stripe extension requires a site served over HTTPS, a business in a Stripe-supported country, and recent versions of PHP, WordPress, and WooCommerce. Check WooCommerce’s live prerequisites rather than relying on a fixed version number or country list.
Use the account-connection flow in WooCommerce’s Stripe account connection guide to connect an existing Stripe account or create one. Stripe controls its onboarding, verification, and compliance requirements; contact Stripe for questions about those processes. After returning to WordPress, check the payment, payout, webhook, and sync statuses in WooCommerce’s settings. Webhooks allow the extension to receive payment events from Stripe, so resolve any connection or webhook status errors before accepting live orders.

Choose payment methods and check fees
The extension can offer card payments, express checkout, local payment methods, and buy-now-pay-later options, but what appears depends on location and account configuration. Inspect the available methods in your own WooCommerce payment settings. Stripe determines transaction fees; check Stripe’s current pricing for your country and payment method rather than assuming one universal rate.
A hosted checkout page redirects the customer to Stripe, while an embedded payment form keeps payment entry on the site. Stripe explains this distinction in its Checkout quickstart; whether a particular WordPress plugin supports a given checkout mode depends on that plugin.

Enter an order for a customer manually
WooCommerce can also be used when staff take an order by phone or need to record a custom order. In the WordPress dashboard, go to WooCommerce > Orders, add an order, enter the customer details and line items, choose the appropriate order status, and save it. If the customer still needs to pay, leave the order pending payment and send the order-details email; it includes a link to the payment page.
