To create an image with Bing Image Creator, open the tool, sign in if prompted, describe the scene in specific visual terms, choose any available mode or aspect ratio, then generate and refine the result. The controls and access limits can change, so treat the options shown in your account as the current ones.
1. Open Bing Image Creator
- Go to Bing Image Creator.
- Sign in with a Microsoft account if prompted. Microsoft’s terms say unauthenticated users cannot generate creations except where Microsoft allows otherwise.
- Review the controls and notices currently displayed. The interface observed on October 8, 2026 showed 10 free creations in Fast mode and unlimited creations in Standard mode, along with free upgrades through Microsoft Rewards. These are current interface statements, not permanent quotas; access and limits may depend on account and service conditions.
2. Write a specific prompt
Describe what should appear in the image using concrete visual details. Microsoft recommends descriptive input in its Paint Image Creator guidance, and Bing’s interface asks for a more descriptive prompt when the input is too vague. A useful prompt identifies the subject, setting, composition, lighting, mood, and visual treatment when those details matter.
For example, replace “a lighthouse” with a description such as “a weathered white lighthouse on a rocky coast at dusk, viewed from below, waves breaking in the foreground, warm light in the windows, atmospheric oil-painting style.” This is a way to communicate intent, not a guaranteed formula; the generated image may interpret details differently.
3. Choose the available image controls
At the time the Bing page was observed, it offered modes and aspect ratios. Choose a mode based on the visual treatment you want, and choose an aspect ratio that suits the destination: a wide image for a banner, for example, or a square image for a profile tile. The names and availability of controls can differ by account, surface, region, and rollout, so use the options actually shown in your interface.

4. Generate, inspect, and refine
- Submit the prompt using the page’s creation control.
- Inspect the result against your intended subject, composition, and details.
- If something important is missing or wrong, revise the prompt with a more explicit description of that detail and generate again.
- Save or use the image only after checking that it is suitable for your purpose and that your intended use complies with applicable rules and rights.
Prompt refinement is iterative: clearer descriptions can help convey what you want, but Microsoft does not promise that a particular prompt structure will produce a specific result.

5. Keep the Paint workflow separate
Microsoft Paint has a related Image Creator feature, but its documented choices and credit terms are specific to Paint rather than general Bing web rules. In Paint, Microsoft documents opening Image Creator from the sidebar, entering a description, choosing a style, selecting Create, then choosing one of three generated variants to apply to the canvas. That feature requires Microsoft account authentication and uses credits; Microsoft Support says one credit is spent for each generated set. Do not use those Paint credit details to infer the Bing website’s quota.
6. Understand content, privacy, and rights
Microsoft may block or review prompts and creations under its content rules. The Bing Image Creator and Bing Video Creator Terms of Use, dated March 2026 in the page metadata, prohibit unlawful uses including harassment, privacy violations, deception, and intellectual-property infringement. Repeated or serious violations can lead to restrictions or suspension. The terms also prohibit attempts to remove or alter provenance marks or signals indicating generated content.

Microsoft says it does not claim ownership of prompts and creations, but that does not mean every use is unrestricted. The terms state: “Microsoft does not claim ownership of Prompts, Creations, customizations, instructions, or any other content you provide, post, input, or submit to, or receive from, the Online Services (including feedback and suggestions).” They also grant Microsoft and its partners permission to use submitted material in connection with their businesses. Microsoft says creations may not be unique across users and does not warrant that an image is free of third-party copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or defamation concerns. You remain responsible for assessing whether your intended use is lawful; generated images are not automatically cleared for commercial use.
