Add or remove rows and columns

On a computer, right-click a cell in the table and select the relevant command:

  • Insert column left or Insert column right to add a column.
  • Insert row above or Insert row below to add a row.
  • Delete column, Delete row, or Delete table to remove content.

Resize and format a table

Drag a row or column boundary to adjust its size. For more control, select cells and open Format > Table > Table options, or right-click and choose Table options. Desktop table options include setting dimensions, distributing rows or columns evenly, changing cell padding and vertical alignment, styling cell borders and backgrounds, and aligning the table. You can also merge or split cells, move rows or columns, and sort rows. Details are in Google’s table help.

Keep headers visible in a long table

On a computer, pin header rows so they repeat at the top of each page in pages format or remain visible at the top of the window in pageless format. In pages format, you can also control whether a row is allowed to overflow across a page break; this setting is not available in pageless format. Google documents these controls in its table formatting guidance.
