From there, review content maturity, communication and privacy, screen time, and spending controls. The exact options depend on the child’s age and may vary by region.
Create the child’s account
- Go to Roblox and choose the option to sign up. Enter the child’s accurate date of birth, a unique username, and a strong password. Roblox requires users to be at least five years old to create an account.
- Choose a username that does not include the child’s real name or other personal information. Their birthday affects default privacy settings and which features are available, so do not enter a false date to change those settings.
- For a child under 13, gender is optional. A parent or guardian email can be added for security and parental controls; it is optional at signup. Roblox advises children under 13 to get parent or guardian permission before using the service.
Roblox describes the signup fields and child privacy defaults in its Privacy and Cookie Policy and explains the minimum age and birthday settings in its account-age guidance.
Link a parent account
- Use an existing Roblox account or create a separate parent account.
- Complete the age-check process shown in the parent account. Parent privileges require Roblox to confirm that the parent is at least 18. Roblox help pages describe verification methods differently, so follow the current instructions displayed in the account.
- From the parent account, link it to the child’s account and confirm the connection. Roblox’s parent account linking guidance explains the process.
A linked parent can manage controls from their own device and see selected usage insights, including daily screen time and the child’s on-platform friends. The Parental Controls FAQ describes the privileges available.
Review the child’s safety settings
In the parent account, open the child’s profile or account controls and review each category below. Roblox may update labels or place them differently across apps and regions; use the current controls shown in your account. Its Parental Controls Overview explains the settings.

Content maturity and individual experiences
Choose a content maturity level appropriate for the child, then check which experiences are allowed. You can block specific games or experiences even when their maturity label would otherwise permit them. Review the allowed and blocked lists periodically rather than relying only on the maturity setting.
Chat and other communication
Review Experience chat, Direct chat, Friends chat, and any other communication controls available to the account. Roblox requires age checks for communications. Its chat guidance says users aged 5–9 need parental consent to enable Experience chat, while users under 16 need parental consent for Direct chat. Availability and requirements can differ by region.

Set each available channel according to what you are comfortable with; communication controls can limit interactions to friends or turn them off. A setting for one channel does not necessarily disable all forms of communication, so check the available controls individually.
Privacy and social access
Check who can contact, chat with, follow, or invite the child. Where available, also review friend visibility and private-server settings. These controls can limit who interacts with the child, but they do not replace reviewing the child’s friends and activity.

Daily screen time
Set a daily limit that fits your family’s routine, then check the usage insights. Roblox says a child who reaches the limit cannot use Roblox for the rest of that day. The Parental Controls Overview covers parental controls, and Roblox’s screen-time guidance explains limits and insights.
Spending and purchases
Set a monthly spending limit and decide whether to receive transaction notifications. Roblox says these limits may not cover gift-card redemption or some console spending. If the child plays on a console, use the console’s own purchase or spending controls as well.

What Roblox’s safety features can—and cannot—do
Roblox says filtered chat is the default for eligible communications and filters certain inappropriate content and personal information. It says posts and chats for users aged 12 and younger are filtered for inappropriate content and personal information. Filtering can reduce exposure, but it cannot guarantee that every interaction or experience is suitable. Roblox’s Privacy and Cookie Policy recommends supervising children while they interact on the platform.

Roblox changes some settings and responsibilities as a child grows. At 13, children begin managing some of their own privacy settings, and Roblox says spending limits no longer apply. Parents may continue to receive selected insights or manage selected settings. Check the controls again at age milestones; Roblox explains the transition in its age-transition guidance.
