To create a battle party in Pokémon GO, open Main Menu and go to Pokémon → Party if your account is below level 10, or Battle → Party if you are level 10 or above. A battle party saves three or six Pokémon for quick selection in Gym, Raid, or Trainer Battles.
Find the Party tab for your account level
- From Map View, tap Main Menu.
- If your account is below level 10, tap Pokémon, then tap the Party tab at the top.
- If your account is level 10 or above, tap Battle, then tap the Party tab at the top.
- On the Party screen, create or select a party from your Pokémon roster. Follow the prompts shown in your app; the official guide identifies the Party tab but does not specify every editor button label.
Niantic describes battle parties as groups of three or six Pokémon for quick selection in Gym, Raid, or Trainer Battles. When you join a battle, choose an eligible party. If the recommended or previously used party is not the one you want, swipe left over it to look for another eligible party. Choose three Pokémon for a Trainer Battle
For a Trainer Battle, you select a League and then choose three Pokémon. The League determines the CP limit that applies to your lineup:

| Ultra League | Maximum 2,500 CP | At least three Pokémon above 1,500 CP. |

These limits and unlock conditions are from Niantic’s Battling Other Trainers guide. Niantic also recommends varying Pokémon to take advantage of type matchups. That can give you options against opposing types, but it does not guarantee a win: the opponent’s lineup and battle decisions matter too.

Battle party is not Party Play
Party in the battle-party menu refers to a saved group of your Pokémon. Party Play is a separate feature that lets nearby Trainers team up to complete tasks and earn rewards. If you are trying to choose Pokémon for a Gym, Raid, or Trainer Battle, use the Party tab in the battle-party menus above; Party Play is for cooperative play with nearby Trainers.
