To create a bhajan stream in OBS, add a looping bhajan file or playlist, place an OBS Text Source containing the lyrics above the media, and send the scene to YouTube using the server URL and stream key from YouTube Live Control Room. A genuinely continuous channel also needs a plan for monitoring, local recording, rights clearance, and stream-session handoffs: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be archived, and DVR may be limited or unavailable.
Before you build the scene: prepare the bhajan and clear its rights
Prepare the audio or video you intend to play and the lyrics you want viewers to see. Check that you have the necessary rights to stream both the recording and the underlying composition. A devotional subject, traditional melody, or freely available online recording does not by itself establish that a particular recording or use is cleared.
YouTube’s live-stream terms require the provider to have the necessary rights for the live content, including music licensing rights. YouTube also scans live streams for third-party material; a detected match can result in a placeholder, interruption, or termination. If you have licensed material but Content ID still identifies it, ask the rights holder whether it can allowlist your channel. Choose how OBS will play the bhajans

OBS documents these options in its Media Sources guide. Check that the files play as expected before building the full scene. If you need several bhajans to play in sequence, use a playlist rather than relying on a single file to represent the whole program.

Create the OBS scene and add lyrics
- Add a scene. In OBS, use the Scenes panel to create or select the scene for the bhajan stream.
- Add a background or bhajan source. In Sources, select the plus button and add an image, color, or the Media Source or VLC Video option you chose. For a Media Source, select the local file and enable Loop. For VLC Video, configure the playlist and enable Loop Playlist.
- Add the lyrics. In Sources, select the plus button and add a Text Source. Enter lyrics directly, or enable Read from file to use a text file. A text file is convenient when you want to maintain the wording separately from the scene.
- Make the text readable. Set a legible font, color, alignment, and outline or background treatment. Use custom extents if they help control the text area. Preview the lyrics against the actual moving image or background; contrast that works on a still screen may not work across a video.
- Put the text in front. In the Sources list, move the lyric source above the media or background source. OBS renders sources higher in the list above those lower down. Resize and position the text, then check the result in the preview.
The available text-source implementation depends on your operating system: OBS documents Text (GDI+) for Windows and Text (Freetype 2) for macOS and Linux. See the Text Sources guide and Sources guide for the relevant controls and layer behavior.
Connect OBS to YouTube
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder stream using YouTube’s live-stream workflow.
- Copy the stream’s server URL and stream key from YouTube.
- In OBS, open Settings and select Stream. Choose YouTube if available in the service list, then enter or select the server URL and provide the stream key. Exact interface choices can vary with the OBS version and connection method.
- Before making the stream public, check the OBS output and YouTube preview. Confirm the bhajan audio is audible and the lyrics are visible and correctly positioned.
- Follow YouTube Live Control Room’s prompts to start the encoder stream and go live.
The stream key is a credential that lets an encoder send a feed to your stream. Keep it private; anyone who obtains it could send video to that destination. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions for the current Live Control Room workflow.

Operate the channel and plan for stream handoffs
A looping OBS source can keep playing while the encoder is running, but that alone is not a complete 24/7 operating plan. YouTube says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an archive, and DVR may be limited or unavailable beyond that threshold. Treat a nominally continuous channel as managed live sessions with a restart or handoff plan, rather than assuming one session will produce a complete replay. YouTube does not specify a best restart interval in the guidance cited here.

- Check access from viewer surfaces. YouTube recommends verifying access from the channel and watch pages and from mobile devices.
- Monitor quality while live. Watch for audio or video problems instead of assuming a successful start guarantees a healthy stream.
- Keep a local recording if a complete copy matters. YouTube recommends a local archive as backup because the online archive is not assured for sessions longer than 12 hours.
- Test a backup encoder if you have one. YouTube recommends testing encoder failover where a backup encoder is available; that is operational guidance, not a promise of uninterrupted service.

Troubleshoot common problems
- Lyrics do not appear: Confirm the Text Source is enabled and positioned above the background or media in Sources. Check that its text or selected file contains the intended lyrics.
- Lyrics are difficult to read: Adjust font size, color, alignment, outline, or background treatment. Recheck the preview against the brightest and busiest parts of the video.
- A playlist will not load in VLC Video: Confirm VLC is installed. If OBS is 64-bit, use 64-bit VLC, as required by OBS’s documentation.
- The YouTube preview does not receive the OBS feed: Recheck the selected server URL and stream key against the stream in Live Control Room. Treat the key as private and replace it if it has been exposed.
- A live stream is interrupted after a music match: Review YouTube’s copyright notice and contact the rights holder if you have a license; ask whether channel allowlisting is needed. Do not assume a license automatically prevents an automated match from interrupting a live feed.
- The stream has no complete replay: A session longer than 12 hours may not be archived, and DVR may be limited or unavailable. Keep a local recording when a complete archive is important and plan session turnover.
