To let visitors download a WordPress page as a PDF with Html2Pdf.app, install and activate the HTML to PDF Converter plugin, connect an Html2Pdf.app API key in the plugin settings, then add the plugin’s shortcode or enable its automatic button for selected post types. The page must be publicly reachable: Html2Pdf.app fetches and renders it through its hosted conversion API.
Install the WordPress plugin and connect Html2Pdf.app
- In your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins → Add New Plugin, search for HTML to PDF Converter, install it, and activate it. The plugin is available through the WordPress plugin listing.
- Open Settings → HTML to PDF and enter your Html2Pdf.app API key. Use the settings page’s connection test before publishing a download button. The provider’s documentation explains API usage and key handling.
- Keep the key private. The API documentation recommends using it from a backend, server-side script, or trusted job—not browser JavaScript, a public repository, or a client-side template.
The plugin is a front end to Html2Pdf.app’s hosted API, not a local WordPress PDF converter. It sends the page URL and conversion settings to the service, which fetches and renders the page.

Use a shortcode where the button should appear
Add this shortcode in the content of the page or post:

Enable an automatic button instead
If you do not want to insert a shortcode, use the plugin’s automatic button setting for selected post types. Its settings let you choose where the button appears and what its label says. This is useful when you want the same download option on a class of content, rather than adding a shortcode to each page.

Make sure the page can be fetched publicly
Html2Pdf.app must be able to open the target page as a public visitor. A page behind a WordPress login, password protection, or HTTP authentication, as well as a localhost or private staging URL, is not publicly accessible to the service and may fail or produce an empty PDF. Test the actual published URL without being logged in before relying on the button. The WordPress.org listing explicitly says the page must be publicly accessible because the API fetches it itself.
Choose PDF layout and remove unwanted page elements
The plugin documents page formats including A4, Letter, and Legal, portrait or landscape orientation, margins, custom dimensions, and screen or print media. Pick settings that match the content: for example, a long article may be easier to read in portrait, while a wide table may need landscape. Use print media when the theme has print-specific styles that hide navigation or adjust spacing.

To omit an element from the PDF while keeping it on the live page, add the CSS class html2pdf_hide to that element. This is suited to navigation, a footer, a floating contact panel, or other material that should not appear in the download. Check the rendered PDF after applying print CSS or hide classes; a theme’s print rules may also hide or restyle content you intended to retain. The same pricing page states that one credit covers each 5 MB chunk of generated PDF and that credits reset on the first day of each month. The Free plan includes customization options and the plugin; its listed file-size limit is 1 MB.
According to Html2Pdf.app’s API documentation, generated PDFs are processed temporarily rather than permanently stored on its servers. It says raw HTML or text submitted through the html parameter is not stored in conversion logs, while selected request metadata and a source URL may be retained. Review the provider’s current documentation and privacy terms if your pages contain sensitive information.

Troubleshoot failed or empty PDFs
- The page is private, protected, or on a local address: publish it at a public URL that can be opened without login, a password, or HTTP authentication. The conversion service cannot fetch a page that is only available to you.
- The API connection test fails: check that the API key was copied correctly and entered in Settings → HTML to PDF, then run the test again. Do not place the key in public page code.
- The PDF is blank or missing content: confirm the public page loads normally, then test a representative page again. JavaScript load timing, external resources, and available fonts can affect the result, according to the provider’s API documentation.
- The PDF layout differs from the webpage: compare
screenandprintmedia. Inspect the theme’s print CSS for rules that hide, resize, or reposition content, and check that you have not appliedhtml2pdf_hideto content you need. - A long or complex document fails on the Free plan: check the generated file size against the plan’s listed 1 MB cap. The provider lists unlimited PDF size on paid plans; its pricing page also ties credit use to each 5 MB chunk of generated PDF.
Before rolling out the button site-wide, test a few representative pages with their real images, fonts, print styles, and scripts. Rendering can vary with resources and JavaScript timing, so a successful test on a simple page does not establish that every page will render identically.
