You can control an Android phone from a Windows PC without Samsung Multi Control in two main ways: use Microsoft Phone Link if your phone supports the feature you want, or use scrcpy to mirror the phone screen and operate it with your PC’s keyboard and mouse. Phone Link is simpler to set up, but its screen and app features are limited to supported devices. scrcpy offers more direct screen control and works over USB or TCP/IP.
Choose the method that fits what you want to do

If you want the easiest starting point, try Phone Link first—but check that your particular phone supports the feature you need. If you want to see and interact with the Android display directly, scrcpy is the more suitable option.
Use Phone Link to connect a supported Android phone
Phone Link is Microsoft’s Windows app for connecting a phone to a PC. Depending on your device and the feature, it can provide access to phone functions or show the phone screen or Android apps. Microsoft says features vary by device, so successful pairing does not mean every Phone Link feature will be available.
- Check the general requirements. Microsoft lists Windows 10 with the October 2022 update or later, or Windows 11; Android 10 or later; and the same Wi-Fi network for both devices. See Microsoft’s Phone Link requirements and setup.
- Open Phone Link on your PC. Follow its pairing instructions. On Android, install or open Link to Windows if prompted.
- Sign in with the same Microsoft account on the phone and PC.
- Pair the devices. Scan the QR code displayed on the PC or enter the code shown in the pairing flow.
- Allow the requested Android permissions. Grant the permissions needed for the features you intend to use, such as notifications or calls.
Check support for screen or app control separately
Phone Link’s general connection requirements do not guarantee access to its Phone screen or Apps experiences. Microsoft describes Phone screen as available on Android devices in select markets running Android 10 or greater with Link to Windows installed or preinstalled. Check Microsoft’s supported-device list for your model and the specific experience you want.

When available, Phone Link’s Apps experience lets you interact using a PC mouse, trackpad, keyboard, pen, or touch-enabled screen. The apps continue running on the Android phone and are mirrored on the PC; they are not installed as Windows apps. Microsoft notes that some games and apps may not work with mouse or keyboard. Use scrcpy for direct screen mirroring and control
The official Genymobile project describes scrcpy as an application that mirrors Android devices over USB or TCP/IP and allows control using the computer’s keyboard and mouse. It works on Windows, does not require root access or an app installed on the phone, and supports Android API 21 or later. Its standard setup does require USB debugging.

- Get scrcpy from the official source. Download it from the Genymobile scrcpy GitHub repository. The project identifies this repository as its only official source; avoid third-party download sites.
- Connect the phone for the wired setup. Use a USB cable that supports data transfer, not just charging. Check that its connector fits your phone.
- Enable USB debugging on Android. This setting is in Android’s developer settings. If Developer options are not visible, use your phone maker’s instructions for enabling them.
- Authorize the computer. When Android displays a USB debugging prompt, approve the connection for this PC.
- Start scrcpy on Windows. Launch it from the downloaded project files. If the connection is authorized and detected, the mirrored phone display should open for PC input.
scrcpy also supports TCP/IP connections. Follow the current connection instructions in the official project documentation for the network method. USB is not mandatory if you use a supported network connection.
Understand the separate OTG mode
scrcpy’s OTG mode is distinct from its standard USB-debugging connection and does not require USB debugging. It has its own USB and Windows driver considerations, so do not treat it as interchangeable with the standard setup; consult the project documentation for current instructions and device compatibility.

Troubleshoot connection and input problems
Phone Link connects, but the screen or apps are missing
That usually points to feature support rather than a failed basic pairing. Check Microsoft’s supported-device guidance for the exact Phone Link experience, your Android version, and your market. Also confirm that Link to Windows is installed or preinstalled where required.
scrcpy does not detect the phone on Windows
The scrcpy FAQ says the device must be detected by ADB. Check that USB debugging is enabled, that you approved the phone’s debugging prompt, and that the cable supports data. If ADB still does not detect the phone, some Windows setups may need device drivers. Consult the official scrcpy FAQ.

The screen mirrors, but mouse or keyboard input does not work
Some phones may require an additional permission for input injection. The scrcpy project specifically notes that some devices, including some Xiaomi phones, may require the Android setting labeled “USB debugging (Security Settings).” This is device-specific, not a universal requirement; check the official documentation before changing additional security settings.

For wired scrcpy, use a USB cable that supports data transfer and matches your phone’s port—for example, a USB-C data cable for a phone with a USB-C port. A cable is not necessary for every setup: Phone Link’s general instructions use Wi-Fi, and scrcpy supports TCP/IP as an alternative connection method.
