To send WooCommerce order notifications through WhatsApp with WANotifier, connect a WhatsApp Business API number to WANotifier, install and authorize its WooCommerce plugin, then create an approved WhatsApp template and link it to the order event you want to notify customers about. Before turning notifications on, check the available triggers, map each template variable to the right order field, and confirm current message charges.
What you need before you start
- A WordPress site running WooCommerce. The available WANotifier documentation does not specify a universal minimum WordPress or WooCommerce version, so check the plugin’s current requirements before installing.
- A WANotifier account and access to a WhatsApp Business API number. A regular WhatsApp Business App account alone is not documented as the integration method. WANotifier says some existing app users may be eligible for its Coexistence feature; confirm current availability and eligibility with WANotifier rather than assuming it applies to every account.
- Permission to install WordPress plugins and change WooCommerce integration settings.
- A WhatsApp-approved message template. WANotifier’s Notifications Overview, updated August 9, 2026, says a template must be created and approved before it can be used for a notification: WANotifier Notifications Overview.
Connect WANotifier to WooCommerce
- Set up WANotifier and connect your WhatsApp Business API number. Sign in or create an account, then follow WANotifier’s current connection flow for the number you plan to use. Verify whether Coexistence is available for your account if you currently use the WhatsApp Business App.
- Install and activate the plugin. In the WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins > Add New Plugin, search for WANotifier’s WooCommerce integration, and install and activate it. WANotifier describes this integration plugin as free; that does not mean WhatsApp messages are free.
- Authorize the connection. Open the WANotifier integration in your WooCommerce settings and choose the option to connect your existing WANotifier account. Complete the authorization when redirected, then return to the store and confirm the integration shows as connected. WANotifier’s instructions are on its WooCommerce integration page and setup tutorial.
Create an approved template and notification
- Create the message template in WANotifier. Write the message for the transaction you intend to notify about and submit it for WhatsApp approval. Transactional notifications are distinct from bulk broadcast campaigns. WANotifier says transactional messages typically use Utility or Authentication templates, depending on the message type; choose the appropriate category in the current setup flow.
- Create a transactional notification. In WANotifier, start a Transactional / Integration / API notification, then select the WooCommerce integration and an event trigger. The exact labels or choices can change, so use the current options displayed in your account.
- Choose the recipient and phone field. Set WooCommerce as the recipient source and select the customer’s billing phone field where appropriate. Check that your checkout process collects a usable phone number and that the selected field matches how your store records it.
- Map template variables to order data. Match every dynamic placeholder in the approved template to the corresponding WooCommerce value, such as an order detail or status. Review the preview and confirm that each variable has the intended value; a message may be approved yet still contain incorrect information if its fields are mapped incorrectly.
- Save and verify the notification. Save the configuration and use WANotifier’s available activity logs and delivery reporting to review sends. These tools can help diagnose configuration issues, but they do not guarantee delivery.
Choose which WooCommerce events send WhatsApp messages
WANotifier lists order confirmations, payment updates, shipping alerts, abandoned-cart reminders, and subscription-related notices as possible use cases. Its tutorial gives examples such as a new order, Processing or Completed status, Refunded status, Awaiting Dispatch, and cart abandonment. These are documented examples, not a promise that every trigger is available in every store configuration. Check the actual trigger list in your integration before building the workflow.
Choose triggers that match the message’s purpose. For example, an order confirmation should correspond to the event that confirms receipt of the order, while a dispatch alert should use a shipping-related event if one is offered. Avoid creating multiple notifications that send the same update for overlapping status changes.
Check charges and customer messaging requirements
WANotifier says its integration plugin is free, while messages sent through the WhatsApp Business API can incur charges. According to WANotifier, Meta’s rate depends on message type and the recipient’s location, and WANotifier passes through Meta API usage costs without an additional markup. These are vendor statements, not a guaranteed quote: check current official Meta pricing and WANotifier’s terms before budgeting, because rates and product terms can change. WANotifier advertises a seven-day trial on its integration materials, but verify whether that offer is available to you now.

Make sure your customer messaging and consent practices comply with current WhatsApp and applicable legal requirements. WooCommerce documents an opt-in checkbox in a separate WhatsApp plugin, but that alone does not establish the full current WhatsApp policy for WANotifier. Review current official requirements before enabling automated customer messages.

WANotifier is a managed integration route: connect your WANotifier account, configure the WooCommerce event and template, and use its reporting tools. WooCommerce also documents a separate plugin that uses WhatsApp Cloud API credentials and configurable order-status triggers. That is a distinct implementation, not a WANotifier setting. The available documentation does not support a reliable feature, price, or performance comparison between the two.
If you are deciding between them, compare how each handles account setup, trigger coverage, template-variable mapping, customer consent, and logs, along with software fees and current WhatsApp message charges. The relevant WooCommerce documentation for the separate route is WooCommerce WhatsApp notifications.

Troubleshoot common setup problems
- The notification cannot be enabled: Confirm that its message template has been approved and that the notification is configured as a transactional integration/API message.
- The message goes to the wrong number or has no recipient: Check that WooCommerce is selected as the recipient source and that the selected customer phone field is populated for the order.
- Dynamic details are missing or incorrect: Recheck each template-variable mapping against the corresponding WooCommerce order data and inspect the rendered message before relying on it.
- An expected event is not listed: Check the triggers currently available in the integration. WANotifier’s examples do not establish that every event is supported for every configuration.
- A saved notification does not appear to deliver: Review WANotifier’s activity logs and reporting, then verify the trigger, recipient number, template status, and current account or message-charge settings.
