An HDMI switch lets you connect several HDMI sources to one TV input and select which one to watch, instead of repeatedly unplugging and swapping cables. Choose a switch based on the devices and formats you actually use; the available information does not establish which four HDMI devices the original title refers to or support any personal product recommendations.
What an HDMI switch does
An HDMI switch takes signals from multiple sources—such as consoles or streaming devices—and routes one selected source to a display’s HDMI input. It is useful when your devices outnumber the TV’s available inputs or when reaching the TV’s ports to change cables is inconvenient. A September 2026 commercial roundup describes this multi-source-to-one-display use case, but it is not independent verification of current product specifications: Shinforce’s HDMI switch roundup.
What to check before choosing one
First, identify the actual devices you want connected and the capabilities of your TV or other display. A switch is only a suitable match if its supported formats work across the equipment in your setup.
- Input count: Make sure it has enough inputs for the sources you plan to connect.
- Resolution, refresh rate, and HDR: Check the switch’s supported formats against both your sources and display. Confirm the current specifications with the switch manufacturer; the cited roundup does not establish current specifications for specific models.
- Switching method: Determine whether you select a source with a button, a remote, or automatic switching.
- CEC behavior: If you want HDMI-connected devices to coordinate control functions, check whether the switch supports the CEC behavior your setup requires. The roundup describes its Anker example as lacking CEC; that is a reported feature, not independently verified current-stock information.
- Audio extraction: If you need audio output separate from the display’s HDMI connection, verify that the switch has the required audio extraction feature. The roundup also describes its Anker example as lacking a dedicated audio extraction port; confirm any candidate’s current details with its manufacturer.
When to check your HDMI cable
A switch does not automatically mean you need to replace your existing cables. A reproduction of the LG OLED55G4 owner’s manual recommends a certified cable bearing the HDMI logo and warns that an uncertified cable may cause no display or a connection error. That guidance is from a third-party reproduction of the manual, not LG’s official support site: Manuals+ reproduction of the LG OLED55G4 manual.
