You generally can’t pair an ordinary Bluetooth speaker directly with a PS5 as its audio output. The simplest workaround is usually to pair the speaker with the TV receiving PS5 audio over HDMI. If the TV doesn’t support Bluetooth audio, a compatible Bluetooth transmitter connected to the TV may work, though compatibility and audio delay vary.
Can you connect a Bluetooth speaker directly to a PS5?
Direct pairing of an ordinary Bluetooth speaker with a PS5 is not established as a supported audio-output method. Sony’s PS5 FAQ says third-party wireless headsets that use Bluetooth are not supported, but that statement is specifically about headsets—not Bluetooth speakers. It should not be treated as a speaker-specific ruling. See Sony’s PS5: The Ultimate FAQ.
Instead of trying to pair the speaker with the console, use the TV or another compatible device between the PS5 and speaker. A generic USB Bluetooth dongle is not a guaranteed way to make an ordinary Bluetooth speaker work with the PS5.
Option 1: Pair the speaker with your TV
This is usually the easiest route if your TV supports Bluetooth audio output. The speaker pairs with the TV, while the PS5 sends sound to the TV over HDMI.

- Connect the PS5 to the TV with HDMI as usual.
- Put the Bluetooth speaker into pairing mode.
- On the TV, open its sound or Bluetooth settings and choose the speaker as the audio output. Menu names and steps vary by TV model.
- If needed, on the PS5 go to Settings > Sound > Audio Output and check the selected output device. You can also open the Control Center, select Sound, and change the output there.
- Play audio and adjust volume using the TV, speaker, or both, depending on your equipment.
Sony documents audio output settings for a TV or AV system, but whether a particular TV can send HDMI audio to a Bluetooth speaker depends on that TV. Check its manual or settings for Bluetooth audio output and whether it can use that output while the PS5’s HDMI input is active. Option 2: Connect a Bluetooth transmitter to the TV
If your TV has no Bluetooth audio output, a transmitter connected to a compatible TV audio output may let you send the TV’s sound to the speaker. In this setup, the PS5 still sends audio to the TV over HDMI; the speaker pairs with the transmitter, not with the PS5.

- Check the TV’s available audio outputs, such as an analog or digital output.
- Choose a Bluetooth transmitter with an input that matches the TV output, and confirm that the TV can send audio through that output while HDMI is in use.
- Connect the transmitter to the TV and follow its instructions to pair it with the speaker. If required, select the transmitter’s connection as the TV’s audio output.
- Test game audio and check for delay between what you see and hear.
This is a conditional workaround, not a guaranteed PS5 feature. TV output settings, transmitter inputs and supported audio formats all affect compatibility. Wireless delay can make game audio feel out of sync; check the transmitter’s latency specifications and the seller’s return terms before relying on it. Sony’s PS5 audio guide describes the console-to-TV or AV-system path, but does not endorse a specific third-party transmitter.
Option 3: Use speakers designed for PS5
PlayStation’s PULSE Elevate speakers are designed for desktop use with PS5, PC, or Mac. For PS5 gaming audio, they connect using PlayStation Link. Their Bluetooth connection is described for compatible devices such as phones, TVs, and streaming devices—not as the way to pair the speakers directly with a PS5. Option 4: Use a headset instead
If external speakers are not essential, a compatible wired or USB headset is another way to hear PS5 audio. Sony says most USB and analog headsets are supported; headsets connecting by 3.5 mm, USB-A, or USB-C can work for 3D Audio. The DualSense controller also has a 3.5 mm headset jack. These are headset options, not Bluetooth-speaker connection methods. Sony’s PS5 FAQ covers supported headset connections.

Troubleshooting a TV-mediated connection
- The speaker does not appear in the TV’s Bluetooth list: Confirm the speaker is in pairing mode, then check the TV’s instructions for pairing and supported Bluetooth audio devices.
- The TV pairs, but there is no sound: Check that the TV’s selected audio output is the speaker and that it can route sound from an HDMI input to Bluetooth.
- A transmitter does not connect: Verify that its input matches the TV’s audio output and follow the transmitter’s pairing procedure. The speaker pairs with the transmitter.
- Sound is delayed: Check the TV’s audio-sync settings and the transmitter’s latency information, if applicable. Delay depends on the equipment, so no particular setup can be assumed to be in sync.
