The connection depends on the console: Nintendo Switch supports built-in Bluetooth audio pairing, while Sony says ordinary third-party Bluetooth headsets are not supported directly on PS5. The available Xbox support information does not establish a specific Bluetooth setup route, so check current Xbox guidance for your console and headset before buying an adapter or following pairing steps.

Connect Bluetooth headphones to a Nintendo Switch
Switch has built-in Bluetooth audio pairing. The menu path is HOME menu > System Settings > Bluetooth Audio. Nintendo’s guide describes pairing and reconnecting saved devices:
- Update the console, then put the headphones or earbuds into Bluetooth pairing or discoverable mode.
- From the HOME menu, open System Settings, scroll to Bluetooth Audio, and choose the option to pair or add a device.
- Select the headphones’ name when it appears. If they have already been paired, turn them on and select them from Bluetooth Audio if they do not reconnect automatically.
- If a saved device will not reconnect, update and restart the console. If that does not help, remove the saved device and pair it again.
Switch Bluetooth audio limitations
- Only one Bluetooth audio device can be connected at a time, though the console can save up to 10 devices.
- Bluetooth microphone input is not supported, so this connection does not provide a headset mic for voice chat.
- No more than two wireless controllers can be connected while Bluetooth audio is active.
- Bluetooth audio disconnects during local communication, such as local wireless play.
- Latency can vary by Bluetooth device. Nintendo lists the A2DP profile and SBC codec, but does not guarantee that every headphone model will operate correctly.
If you are choosing headphones for Switch, check that they support A2DP and SBC. Those specifications do not guarantee compatibility with an individual model.
Connect headphones to a PlayStation 5
Do not try to pair ordinary Bluetooth headphones through the PS5’s accessory menus: Sony says third-party wireless headsets using Bluetooth are not supported directly. Instead, choose a connection method that Sony documents for PS5.

Use a compatible USB or PlayStation Link headset
For wireless audio, use a headset identified as PS5-compatible over USB, or a supported PlayStation Link headset with its USB adapter. Sony’s accessory support page describes the PULSE Elite and PULSE Explore connecting through an included PlayStation Link USB adapter. Check the exact headset’s current compatibility information and setup instructions; generic USB Bluetooth transmitters are not established as a supported substitute.
Use a wired headset with the DualSense controller
Plug a standard wired headset with a 3.5 mm connector into the DualSense controller’s headphone jack. PlayStation’s PS5 FAQ says, “Headsets that can connect to a 3.5mm jack, USB-A, or USB-C will work for 3D Audio.” That statement concerns 3D Audio support; it does not establish that every headset’s microphone or other functions will work in every configuration.

What to do about Bluetooth headphones on Xbox
The accessible official Xbox headset support page did not provide readable Bluetooth instructions, so a specific pairing path or claim about direct Bluetooth support cannot be confirmed here. Do not rely on generic PS5 or Switch instructions, and do not assume a separate Bluetooth transmitter will work.
