To enable 3CX alerts, turn on its permission in Windows at Start > Settings > System > Notifications. Configure call shortcuts in the installed Softphone’s Settings, under its hotkeys controls. “Startup” can mean leaving 3CX running in the tray, launching it automatically at sign-in, or deploying it with Group Policy; those are separate tasks, and current official documentation does not establish a user-facing auto-launch setting or path.
Turn on 3CX notifications in Windows
- Open Start > Settings > System > Notifications.
- Find 3CX in the app list and switch its notifications on. Make sure Windows allows the app to send notifications.
These are Windows notification permissions, not a hidden in-app notification switch. 3CX’s [April 2025 guidance on chat notifications] points users to this Windows setting when troubleshooting missing alerts. The Softphone is designed to work in the background and notify users of incoming calls and messages, but Windows permissions and notification settings still affect whether alerts appear on a particular PC, as described in 3CX’s [March 2024 announcement].
Set up Softphone hotkeys
Open Settings in the installed Windows Softphone and locate its hotkeys controls. The exact label or location can vary by build; an older Windows Client manual’s “Hot Keys” page is not reliable guidance for the current Softphone interface. If you cannot find the controls, check the installed build and documentation provided by your administrator.

- Open the dialer
- Answer a call
- Blind transfer or attended transfer
- Hold or resume a call
- Divert an incoming call to voicemail
- Hang up or decline a call
3CX says hotkeys work while the app is minimized to the taskbar or system tray. Its build history records a hotkeys-page fix in V5.8 beta in August 2026; that beta note should not be treated as a description of production behavior. 3CX announced Windows Softphone V5.5 production on March 30, 2026. Choose what “startup” means

For the documented domain deployment, the administrator places the MSIX package and PowerShell script on a network share and configures Group Policy startup and logon scripts. The [3CX GPO deployment guide] also lists command-line settings such as --host, --echo-cancellation, --ringer-volume, and --mic-gain. The Softphone must be installed and fully closed before applying those settings; running the commands launches the app. They cover provisioning, audio, and integrations—not hotkeys or a user-level auto-launch preference. The guide’s OS prerequisites apply to that deployment method, not necessarily to every Softphone installation.

Optional: choose audio devices for calls
If you also need to configure call audio, 3CX troubleshooting guidance recommends selecting a headset for the microphone, speaker, and ringing roles. You can use a separate output device, such as a speaker, for ringing. A headset is an audio choice, not a requirement for notifications, hotkeys, or startup setup.
