Compare portable power stations on three separate measures: stated battery energy in watt-hours (Wh), continuous and surge output in watts (W), and recharge time under a clearly specified charging method. A higher Wh rating does not guarantee that much energy will reach an AC appliance, and a large battery may still be unable to run a device whose power draw exceeds the inverter’s limit.
Start with the three specifications that answer different questions
- Capacity (Wh): how much stored energy the manufacturer says the battery holds. It is a useful first-pass guide to potential runtime, not a guarantee of energy delivered to an AC appliance.
- Continuous output (W): the power the station is rated to supply steadily. Compare this with the appliance’s running draw and the station’s total shared output limit.
- Surge output (W): a short-duration peak intended to accommodate brief startup demand. It is not a second continuous rating; check any stated duration or operating conditions.
These specifications are not interchangeable. Capacity is about energy over time; output is about how much power the station can supply at once. A high-capacity battery can still be unsuitable for an appliance that exceeds its continuous output rating or startup capability.
How to compare capacity and estimate runtime
Record the manufacturer-rated Wh for the exact model and note whether an expansion battery is included or optional. Treat that figure as stated battery energy, not as “usable AC Wh.” When a station powers an AC appliance, conversion losses, load, reserve limits, and the selected output path affect how much energy is delivered. The cited manufacturer specifications do not establish independently measured, cross-brand usable AC energy, so they do not support a precise comparison of delivered energy.
To estimate runtime, you also need the appliance’s actual draw while operating. A label or manual may give a rated or maximum figure rather than the draw during every moment of use. Refrigerators and other cycling appliances can vary their demand; motor-driven equipment may also need extra power at startup. Capacity alone therefore cannot establish how long a particular refrigerator, kettle, or CPAP will run. Check both the appliance’s measured or specified draw and the station’s output limits; treat a runtime estimate based only on dividing Wh by appliance watts as a rough ideal, not a promised result.

Check continuous output, surge, and electrical compatibility
Compare the station’s rated continuous AC output with the running power of every appliance you expect to use at the same time. If the manufacturer gives a total shared output limit, use that limit for combined loads rather than assuming each outlet can supply the full rating independently. Then check startup demand against the surge rating and any conditions attached to it.
Confirm regional voltage and frequency as well as outlet and port types. A station’s outlet arrangement and electrical specifications can vary by market, so a model name alone is not enough to establish compatibility. For DC or USB devices, check the port type, count, and individual limits; verify that the devices can connect directly and operate together within the station’s limits.

Compare recharge times only under matching conditions
A charging-time claim is meaningful only alongside its method and endpoint. Record whether it refers to AC, solar, or vehicle charging; the starting charge; the ending percentage; and the mode used. An advertised time to 80%, an emergency or fast-charge mode, and a full 0–100% charge are different claims. Solar estimates also depend on the stated panel setup and conditions, and vehicle charging is a separate scenario from wall charging.
Check the station’s input limits and the charging equipment required. For solar, confirm panel voltage and current compatibility and whether the exact model needs an adapter. Do not assume a panel listed for one station works with another just because its nominal wattage appears suitable.

Use manufacturer examples without treating them as a head-to-head test
The figures below are manufacturer-published specifications and claims, not independent comparative measurements. Their charge-time figures describe different methods and endpoints, so they should not be read as a direct ranking.
| Model and source region | Stated capacity | AC output | Manufacturer-listed charging claim |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jackery Explorer 1000 v2, US listing | 1070 Wh | 1500 W rated; 3000 W surge | AC adapter: 1.58 hours. SolarSaga 200W setup: 7.5 hours. |
| EcoFlow DELTA, original US listing | 1260 Wh | 1800 W output; 3300 W surge | AC outlet: under 1 hour to 80%; 96 minutes to full. |
| Jackery Explorer 1000 v2, UK listing | not stated on the cited UK listing information | 1500 W rated; 3000 W surge; 230 V / 50 Hz | AC recharge: 1.7 hours. |
The US and UK Explorer 1000 v2 listings differ in stated AC recharge time and electrical details. Confirm the precise regional SKU and current product listing rather than transferring a figure across markets. Likewise, the EcoFlow figures belong to the original DELTA listing and should not be attributed to newer DELTA models.

- 𝟔 𝐖𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞: Supports up to 400W solar input. Power up via AC + solar, a wall outlet, a generator, solar panels, an alternator charger, or a car outlet—anytime, anywhere.
- Connections: AC outlet and DC/USB port types, counts, and limits.
- Charging setup: compatible AC, solar, or vehicle input equipment, including required adapters.
- Placement and transport: weight, dimensions, noise, and documented temperature limits.
- Expansion: whether extra batteries are supported and whether the quoted capacity includes them.
- Backup transfer: how power switches when the grid fails and whether the connected equipment can tolerate the interruption.
Do not treat a generic “UPS” label as proof that a station provides zero-interruption power. Jackery describes the Explorer 1000 v2 UPS function as pass-through operation that switches to battery on an outage, and cautions that it is not a zero-interruption UPS for equipment requiring true uninterruptible power. Check the transfer behavior with the station maker and the interruption tolerance specified by the equipment maker before relying on a portable station for sensitive equipment. See Jackery’s Explorer 1000 v2 support information.
Quick Recap
A practical comparison checklist
- Write down the exact model and regional version, including whether any expansion battery is part of the package.
- Record rated capacity in Wh and label it as manufacturer-stated battery energy, not guaranteed AC-delivered energy.
- List each planned appliance’s running draw and startup demand, then compare them with the station’s continuous and surge ratings.
- Check voltage, frequency, total shared output, outlet types, and port limits against the devices you plan to use together.
- Compare recharge claims only when input method, starting charge, endpoint, and charging mode match; verify compatible accessories and adapters.
- Check transport, placement, temperature, and transfer behavior against the intended use, especially for backup power.
