On the Epic Games Store, claim the weekly giveaway while it is available and it stays in your account library even if you do not download it right away. Sign in to the account where you want the game recorded, enable two-factor authentication, and complete the claim before the offer’s displayed deadline. Rules differ by storefront and offer type, so check the specific listing rather than assuming every free game works this way.
How to claim Epic’s weekly free game

Open the Epic Games Store free-games page and select the current weekly offer.

Sign in to the Epic account that should hold the game. If you previously used an external sign-in option, use the same associated account.

Check the offer’s title, platform, regional availability, and displayed countdown or end date. Complete the claim flow before that deadline; use the live listing rather than relying only on the usual weekly schedule.

After claiming, check your library or transaction history to confirm the game was added. You do not have to download it during the offer window.

Epic says a new weekly free game is available every Thursday at 8 AM PT and can be claimed for seven days before it rotates. These are Epic’s published timing rules; the live offer page is the place to verify the current title and expiry.
What happens if you miss the deadline?
Viewing the offer is not the same as claiming it. If the claim period ends before you complete the purchase flow, the promotion is no longer available to claim. Epic advises watching for future offers; missing one does not establish that the same game will be offered again. Free-to-keep, free-to-play, and temporary offers are different

Epic’s free-games catalog distinguishes giveaways, free-to-play titles, and demos. Steam’s support description similarly says free-to-play games can be downloaded and played without a subscription or credit card, while allowing optional in-game purchases; that does not establish the claim or retention rules for a particular Steam giveaway.
If a claimed game is missing from your library
Work through these checks in order. Launcher labels can change, but Epic’s current support guidance covers these causes.

Confirm you are signed in to the same Epic account and with the same sign-in method used for the claim.

Reset library filters, include uninstalled games, refresh the library, and check whether the library is hidden.

Check whether the game is compatible with your operating system and the platform where it was redeemed.

Check whether a refund removed it, the transaction was a gift sent to another player, or the item was a temporary beta or press build rather than the full game.

If you redeemed a retail key, consider whether it was revoked. If the transaction appears but the title is still inaccessible, contact Epic Games Store support.

Library access is not the same as owning the software outright
For a claimed weekly giveaway, Epic support says the game remains in your library after claiming, whether or not you download it immediately. That describes the account entitlement, not outright ownership of the underlying software: Epic’s End User License Agreement, section 1.1, says, “The Software is licensed, not sold, to you under the License.” The agreement also describes rare cases where software removed from the store may no longer be available for further download or access. Consumer rights can vary by jurisdiction.
