Choose a Mech for the ability and Energy Capacity that fit how you want to play, then equip up to two Weapons whose combined Energy Cost stays within that capacity. There is no universally best beginner loadout established by the official guides; the best choice is the one that fits your available gear, preferred fighting distance, and Hangar progression.
Start with the Mechs you actually have
Compare available Mechs by their ability, base stats, and Energy Capacity before spending resources. Each Mech has a unique ability, and its Rank affects base stats, including Energy Capacity. Read the in-game ability description and check the displayed capacity: those determine what the Mech can do and which Weapons it can carry. Plarium’s official game overview describes the game’s Mechs, Weapons, and Hangar configuration.
Choose an ability that supports your role
Think about what you want to do in a match—reach an objective, reposition, survive pressure, or pursue opponents—and choose an ability that helps with that job. For example, the official beginner guide describes Paragon’s Boost as a temporary speed increase that can help with chasing, reaching cover, or getting to a Control Point. That illustrates how to assess an ability; it does not make Paragon a universal best first choice. See the Mech Arena Beginner’s Guide: Starter Tips.
Make sure your Weapons fit the Mech
A Mech can equip up to two Weapons. Add their Energy Costs together and make sure the total does not exceed the Mech’s Energy Capacity; an over-capacity combination cannot be equipped. The official Weapons guide explains the equipment rule and the attributes shown for Weapons.

Compare Weapon behavior, not just its name
First decide the distance at which you want to fight and how you want to deal damage. Then compare the actual attributes in your Inventory. The official Weapons guide identifies these useful fields:

- Accuracy and damage radius: Consider how precisely the Weapon hits and whether its damage affects an area.
- Perk: Read its in-game description to understand the Weapon’s additional behavior.
- Energy Cost: Confirm that the Weapon—or the pair you want to equip—fits the Mech’s capacity.
These are in-game item attributes, not a published independent ranking of beginner performance. Balance and item availability can change, so verify the current descriptions and values in Inventory before committing resources.
Account for your Pilot
Pilots can improve Weapon characteristics through Innate Skills, and some skills depend on Weapon type. If you already have a Pilot in mind, check how its skill interacts with the Weapon before settling on the pairing.

Keep the whole Hangar in mind
Your first Mech is one part of a larger lineup. Current official guidance recommends keeping equipped Mechs, Weapons, and Pilots relatively close in Rank, Level, and rarity. A single unusually advanced item among beginner gear can distort the Hangar’s power profile and contribute to facing harder opponents. Plarium’s Hangar Loadout and How It Affects Your Battle Experience, updated July 16, 2026, also says that using a lower-powered preset does not necessarily lead to weaker matchmaking: overall account progression and highest achievements are considered. Treat this as the publisher’s guidance, not a guarantee of particular matchmaking outcomes.
Use presets for different modes
The same Hangar article recommends tailoring presets to the mode rather than expecting one lineup to be ideal everywhere. Its role guidance is to emphasize high damage and self-sufficiency in Free-For-All, speed, stealth, or toughness in Control Point Clash, and a balanced squad in 5v5 Deathmatch. These are broad role suggestions; choose among the Mechs and Weapons available to your account.

- Robot Quest Arena is an exciting deck-building board game.
- 2-4 Players will battle it out to become the best Robot Tech in the world!
- Craft your deck to control, protect and upgrade your bot as you fight to knock out competitors in the arena.
- This game contains 4 adorable robot minis that you will use in the arena.
- Navigate and survive the hazards of the arena, whilst also battling your opponents. If your bot gets destroyed, don't worry, as each destroyed bot gets respawned at the end of every round. Ensuring you never miss the action.
Make progress without overinvesting in one item
The official beginner guide recommends opening all five Hangar slots early, completing daily and core objectives, learning Mech abilities, upgrading Mechs, and progressing through Gear Hub tiers. Higher Gear Hub tiers offer rarer and more powerful gear. In combination with the Hangar guidance on keeping equipment relatively even, that suggests building a workable lineup instead of pushing one advanced item far ahead of everything else.
- Review your Hangar: List the Mechs and Weapons currently available and note each Mech’s ability, Rank, and Energy Capacity.
- Pick a role and distance: Decide what you want the Mech to contribute and how close or far you expect to fight.
- Compare compatible Weapons: Check Energy Cost first, then compare range, damage, fire rate, magazine, reload, accuracy, damage radius, and perk in Inventory.
- Check the full lineup: Consider the Rank, Level, and rarity of the rest of your Hangar and whether a mode-specific preset would suit your play.
- Verify before spending: Recheck the current in-game stats and compatibility, since balance and availability can change.
How to compare two candidate loadouts
| Factor | What to check | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Mech fit | Ability, Rank, base stats, and Energy Capacity | These shape the Mech’s role and the equipment it can carry. |
| Weapon compatibility | One or two Weapons; their combined Energy Cost versus capacity | A pairing above capacity cannot be equipped. |
| Engagement behavior | Optimal and maximum range, damage per shot or magazine, fire rate, reload, accuracy, damage radius, and perk | Shows how the Weapons fit your preferred distance and tactics. |
| Pilot interaction | Pilot Innate Skill and Weapon type | Some Pilot bonuses depend on Weapon type. |
| Hangar progression | Gear Hub tier and the Rank, Level, and rarity of your other gear | Helps you assess the loadout as part of your overall lineup. |
| Game mode | Whether the preset is for Free-For-All, Control Point Clash, or 5v5 Deathmatch | Different modes reward different roles in the publisher’s guidance. |
Use community builds as examples, not rankings
A community guide hosted on Mech Arena Support, Best Hangar for new players, offers example combinations for newer players and identifies its author as killerelite_. Treat those suggestions as that player’s examples, not as an official or universally current ranking; game balance can change.
