For Fortnite, choose a thumbstick accessory for the change you want: a grip-only cover for more traction with a stock-like height, or a low- or mid-rise extender for added grip and some extra height. High-rise sticks are a personal preference to test, not a guaranteed aim upgrade. Check compatibility with your exact controller and practise with the new feel before changing sensitivity.
Choose by the change you want
Thumbstick accessories differ in two important ways: whether they add height and how they change the stick’s grip or surface. KontrolFreek describes its Performance Thumbsticks as adding height, grip, and surface area, while its No-Slip Thumb Grips focus on traction and stay closer to the original stick feel. These are product descriptions, not proof of better Fortnite results. KontrolFreek’s product guide
- Mainly want more traction: Consider a low-profile, grip-only cover if you want to stay closer to stock height.
- Want a modest height change: Compare low-rise and mid-rise extenders. KontrolFreek’s shooter guidance, which includes Fortnite, presents them as options that require less adjustment than high-rise.
- Want to try a larger height change: Treat high-rise as an individual preference. It changes thumb travel and may feel unfamiliar; the available guidance does not establish that it improves Fortnite accuracy or match results.
KontrolFreek Support says, “Your ideal KontrolFreek setup will depend on your game genre, hand size, sensitivity, and personal preferences.” That is the manufacturer’s selection guidance, not an independent finding. KontrolFreek’s height and game guidance
Compare extenders and grip-only covers
| Option | Height change | Grip and feel | Best fit if you want |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grip-only cover | Stays closer to stock height | Focuses on traction without the larger change in thumb travel associated with a taller stick | More grip with minimal change to your familiar feel |
| Low-rise extender | Low rise | Adds height and grip; the exact surface depends on the product | A modest height change |
| Mid-rise extender | Mid rise | Adds height and grip; the exact surface depends on the product | More height than a low-rise option, while avoiding the largest change |
| High-rise extender | High rise | Creates a larger change in thumb travel and feel | A height preference you are willing to test and adapt to |
Rise labels and product construction can vary by listing. Compare the stated added height, texture or surface, whether the item is an extender or a grip-only cover, and verified compatibility rather than choosing by the label alone. KontrolFreek’s guidance favors lower adjustment for its Fortnite/shooter category; it does not establish a universal best height. KontrolFreek’s selection guidance

Check compatibility before buying
Confirm that the accessory fits the precise controller model you own. This matters especially for third-party controllers: KontrolFreek says its Performance Thumbsticks are primarily designed for official PlayStation and Xbox controllers and warns against forcing an attachment. Review the maker’s compatibility guide and the specific product listing; platform alone may not identify the controller’s fit. KontrolFreek’s controller compatibility guide
Adjust to the new feel before changing settings
A change in stick height changes how your thumb moves. KontrolFreek Support says, “KontrolFreeks change the height of your thumbsticks, which changes how your thumb moves.” Its adjustment guidance recommends giving a new setup a few sessions and making sensitivity changes in small steps. - Install the accessory only if it fits the controller without force.
- Use the same Fortnite sensitivity and other settings at first so you can judge the physical change on its own.
- Try the setup in practice or unranked play, then assess comfort and control over several sessions.
- If aim feels too fast, too slow, or simply unfamiliar, change sensitivity in small increments rather than making a large adjustment immediately.
There is no independent head-to-head Fortnite test in the cited material showing that a particular height improves accuracy, wins, or rank. Manufacturer statements about precision or performance should be treated as product claims, not measured Fortnite outcomes. KontrolFreek’s explanation of how its products work

An extender changes the physical stick; it does not change Fortnite’s controller settings. Epic explains how to open the controller settings on PC or console in its controller-controls instructions. Epic’s aim-assist instructions place Aim Assist Strength under Controller Options and Sensitivity after Advanced Options are enabled; Epic notes that not all settings are available on every platform.
