Start with the mode and objective, then build a lineup whose skills, affinity, buffs and debuffs, stats, and gear work together. There is no universally best five-champion team: the right choices depend on your roster, progression, and target encounter.
Start with the mode and objective
Decide what the team must do before choosing who fills its slots. A wave-clearing team, a boss team, and an Arena lineup can need different combinations of damage, protection, healing, control, and debuffs. RAID: Shadow Legends supports saved team setups for general battles, Faction Wars, Chimera, Doom Tower, Hydra, and PvP; some modes also let you set skill instructions by round. You can therefore build for particular jobs instead of forcing one lineup into every fight. Plarium Support: Team Setup
- For waves, consider whether the team can deal damage efficiently and manage groups of enemies.
- For a boss, check what the encounter demands, including staying alive and landing any useful debuffs.
- For Arena, consider the opposing lineup and whether your skills can answer its threats.
Read the skills, not just the champion type
Plarium groups champions into Attack, Defense, HP, and Support types. Its descriptions characterize Attack champions as primary damage dealers; Defense champions as durable and able to disrupt enemies; HP champions as durable and able to draw attacks; and Support champions as sources of healing, buffs, and debuffs. These labels are useful for an initial scan, but they do not tell you by themselves whether a champion fits your specific team. Plarium: Champions
Read the skill descriptions and ask what each champion actually contributes in the fight: damage, protection, healing, buffs, debuffs, or control. Check the effects and cooldowns rather than assuming that two champions of the same type are interchangeable. If a kit is unfamiliar, Plarium’s beginner advice is to turn off Auto, test the champion in Manual mode, and review the Champion profile skills to understand how abilities work together. Check affinity against the target
Affinity can affect whether an attack performs as expected. The cycle is Force > Magic > Spirit > Force; Void has no direct affinity advantage or disadvantage. According to Plarium Support, an affinity advantage gives a 50% chance for a skill to land as a Crushing Hit and an extra 15% chance of a Critical Hit. An affinity disadvantage reduces damage by 20% and gives a 35% chance of a Weak Hit. The support page does not display a publication date. Plarium Support: Affinity
If a plan relies on a particular attack or debuff, consider whether the target’s affinity could undermine it. Keep an alternative available when affinity matters to the matchup, rather than treating one lineup as equally reliable against every target.

Make sure the team’s effects can land
Buffs temporarily improve allies; debuffs weaken enemies or apply other harmful effects. Plarium’s game overview says a debuff lands only if the target does not resist it, and identifies Accuracy and Resistance as relevant to that check. Plarium: Game Overview
For each proposed lineup, identify the effects its skills bring and whether they help with the encounter. Then check whether the relevant stats support landing those debuffs. A team can include a champion with a useful effect on paper yet fail to make that effect reliable if the build does not support it.

Build champions for their assigned jobs
Gear changes a champion’s stats and utility, so evaluate the resulting build rather than choosing by set name alone. Plarium’s gear guide lists six Artifact types—weapon, helmet, shield, gauntlets, chestplate, and boots—and three accessory types—ring, amulet, and banner. Each champion can equip one of each accessory type. Gear sets grant additional effects; Plarium gives Shield and Stun as examples. Plarium Support: Gear
Ask whether the gear and stats help the champion perform its team role. A damage dealer, a champion expected to survive incoming attacks, and one responsible for landing debuffs have different jobs; compare the build’s useful stats and effects against that job. Independent build collections can offer a second opinion on artifacts, masteries, blessings, and teams, but RaidNinja describes its guide collection as under development. Treat its advice as supplementary, and check it against the current kit and your target mode. RaidNinja build guides
Judge the lineup as a team, not by Team Power
Plarium says Team Power is the sum of the individual Champions’ Powers; a larger total is not a promise of victory. Its support page states, “Team synergy and counter-pick are a much more accurate way to defeat your opponents.” Plarium Support: Champion and Team Power

When comparing lineups, check whether champions enable one another, whether the team covers its survival needs, whether it can answer the encounter, and whether the matchup makes an important skill less effective. A roster with a larger power total can still be a worse choice if it lacks the role or response the fight calls for.

Plarium’s beginner tips recommend learning Campaign and using gear earned there before moving heavily into Dungeons. They also recommend manual testing to learn champion skills and synergy. This is general beginner guidance, not a rule for every account or endgame goal. A practical approach is to invest in a small, useful core that helps you progress, then expand it in response to the next content bottleneck. The official guidance does not establish a universal list of champions to build first.

Compare two champions for a team slot
When two roster options compete for the same place, compare them against the fight rather than asking which is better in the abstract:
- Mode and encounter: Does the champion’s kit help with the specific stage or opponent?
- Skills: What effects does it provide, and how consistently are they available?
- Team function: Does it add needed damage, protection, healing, buffs, debuffs, or control—or duplicate a role already covered?
- Affinity: How does it match up against the target?
- Build investment: What stats, gear, masteries, or blessings does it need to perform its job?
- Synergy and versatility: Does it enable teammates, and is it useful in more than one mode for your account?
The right weighting changes with the encounter and the rest of your roster. If you want a specific recommendation, the useful details are your champions, target mode and stage, progression, gear quality, and any restrictions that apply.
