Choose the ear tip that stays comfortably in place and seals your ear canal without painful pressure. Try the supplied sizes in each ear—your left and right ears may need different sizes—then check the seal and stability while moving. A good fit helps earbuds deliver their intended sound and noise reduction; the tightest fit is not necessarily the right one.
How to find the right ear tip size
- Start with the supplied tips. Fit the earbuds as you normally would, seating each tip comfortably rather than forcing it into your ear.
- Compare nearby sizes in each ear. Try the next size up or down and judge each ear separately. Bose notes that different ears may need different sizes.
- Check comfort and the seal. The tip should sit securely without pinching, feeling overly compressed, or causing pain. A tip that feels loose or shifts may not be sealing well.
- Move while wearing them. Walk, talk, or gently move your head. The earbuds should remain stable during ordinary movement.
- Use a fit test if available. Treat the app or device result as an additional check alongside comfort and stability.
Size alone does not determine fit: Belkin warns that tips that are too small can be unstable, while tips that are too large can be uncomfortable or unstable. Comply likewise recommends judging comfort and seal rather than simply choosing the tightest-feeling tip. What a good seal does for sound
A good seal helps earbuds perform as designed. Apple says it improves noise cancellation and gives music richer bass; Belkin links correctly sized tips to sound quality and reduced outside noise. The audible result varies by listener and fit, so treat a seal as a condition for intended performance—not a guarantee of a particular sound change.
Fit tests for specific earbuds
AirPods Pro

Bose QuietComfort Earbuds
Bose advises checking fit and trying another size if comfort, security, noise cancellation, or sound quality is not as expected. Silicone or foam: which should you try?
Silicone tips are common with earbuds and are a sensible starting point. If several silicone sizes feel slippery, uncomfortable, or unstable, compatible memory-foam tips may be worth trying. Foam is a fit option, not a universal sound upgrade: choose the material that gives you a comfortable, secure seal with your specific earbuds. Check compatibility before buying replacements
Ear tips are not universally interchangeable. Apple says AirPods Pro tips are designed for particular models, and tip designs differ across generations. Before buying third-party replacements, confirm the exact earbud model and check the tip maker’s compatibility information. A similar shape or connector is not proof that a tip fits your earbuds.
- Confirm the full earbud model and generation.
- Check the replacement maker’s compatibility listing or finder for that exact model.
- Compare comfort, movement stability, and seal—not just the size label.
- If your earbuds offer a fit or seal test, use it as a further check after fitting the replacement.
