These are separate adjustments: try tip and band sizes independently, and don’t assume both ears need the same combination. The Bose app’s Earbud Seal Test can help confirm your fit.
Check which QuietComfort Ultra generation you have
Bose lists separate fit kits for the original QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds and QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen). Check your earbuds’ model generation before buying replacement parts; don’t assume a kit for another QuietComfort model—or for the other Ultra generation—will fit. Bose’s official original-generation fit kit is distinct from the 2nd Gen kit listed in Bose’s accessory catalog.
Both generations’ published specifications list eartips in S, M, and L, plus stability bands in sizes 1, 2, and 3. The supplied sets therefore let you test multiple combinations rather than treating the tip and band as a single size choice. See Bose’s original-generation specifications and 2nd Gen specifications.
How to seat the earbuds
- Place the eartip gently at the opening of the ear canal; don’t push it deeply into the ear.
- Rotate the earbud slightly back until the tip forms a comfortable seal and the stability band rests against the ear ridge.
- Check that the earbud feels secure without pinching, excessive pressure, or a sensation that it is being pushed too far in.
Bose’s fit guidance says, “The eartip gently rests at the opening of your ear canal to create a comfortable seal.” Rotating too far forward or backward can affect audio and microphone sound quality, so make small adjustments rather than forcing the earbud into position.

Choose the eartip and stability band separately
| Part | What a good fit feels or looks like | What to try if it’s wrong |

| Eartip | A comfortable seal at the canal opening. | If it feels tight, uncomfortable, or squashed, try a smaller tip. If it feels loose, sits too deep, or risks falling out when you move, try another size. |
| Stability band | It rests against the ear ridge without sticking out or feeling compressed. | If it sticks out or feels squashed, try a smaller band. If it does not reach the ridge, try a larger band. |
The tip controls the seal at the canal opening; the band helps stabilize the earbud against the ear. A band that seems wrong does not automatically mean the tip is the wrong size. Change one part at a time so you can tell which adjustment improves comfort and security. Bose’s original-generation fit instructions and 2nd Gen fit guidance describe these checks.
Try combinations for each ear
Test left and right ears independently. If one side seals well with a medium tip and the other feels loose, it is fine to use different sizes. The same applies to the stability bands: each ear can use the size that rests properly on its ridge. Bose’s original-generation FAQ says tips and bands can be mixed and matched, allowing nine possible eartip-and-band combinations.

- Start with the size that feels most comfortable in each ear.
- If the seal is poor or the tip feels uncomfortable, change the eartip size while keeping the band the same.
- If the seal is comfortable but the earbud feels unstable, change the stability band while keeping the tip the same.
- Repeat on the other side as needed; matching sizes are not required.
If none of the combinations feels comfortable and secure, don’t compensate by pushing the tip deeper or rotating the earbud sharply. Recheck its placement and try the other supplied sizes.
Run the Bose app’s Earbud Seal Test
Use the test as an additional fit check, alongside comfort and stability. In the Bose app, select your earbuds, open Settings, choose Earbud Seal Test under How To Wear, and follow the on-screen instructions. If the app indicates a poor fit, try a different eartip or stability-band size for the affected ear and run the test again. Menu wording may change between app versions.

What to check before buying replacement fit parts
Buy a kit identified for your exact QuietComfort Ultra generation. Bose offers separate generation-specific fit kits; its original-generation kit is described as including three pairs of soft eartips (S, M, and L) and three pairs of stability bands (sizes 1, 2, and 3), which can be mixed and matched. Bose’s official fit-kit page gives the product details. Bose’s published information does not establish compatibility for generic third-party tips, so check compatibility with the seller or manufacturer before relying on one.
