You can make a World of Warcraft AMV with music that has clear permission for your intended use, but permission for Blizzard footage and permission for a song are separate. For a video going to YouTube, start with the Audio Library inside YouTube Studio, check the individual track’s terms, and include any required credit in the description. No source can guarantee that an upload will never receive a copyright claim.
What does “copyright-safe music” mean for a WoW AMV?
It means you have permission to use the particular music recording in an audiovisual work, under terms that cover your planned destination and use. The label “copyright-safe” is not a special legal status, and “royalty-free” does not by itself explain what a license permits. Check the license for the track you actually use, including any attribution, monetization, platform, territory, or editing conditions.
A WoW AMV typically brings together at least two kinds of copyrighted material: Blizzard game content, such as captured gameplay, and music. Blizzard’s community-video policy addresses its own content under stated conditions; it does not automatically license an unrelated song. The U.S. Copyright Office describes synchronization as involving the musical work and the sound recording when music is paired with audiovisual material. Where can I find music for a YouTube WoW video?
For a YouTube upload, YouTube Studio’s Audio Library is the most direct documented starting point. YouTube says that music and sound effects from this library are “copyright-safe” on its platform; that statement applies to the library, not to music found elsewhere or to every platform. [c003]

- Open YouTube Studio and go to Audio Library. Use the library within Studio rather than relying on a re-uploaded track or a third-party video whose title says “no copyright.”
- Search or filter candidates. YouTube documents filters for mood, genre, duration, and attribution requirement. Choose music that fits the footage and edit as well as the practical constraints of your video. [c003]
- Inspect the individual track’s license information. Do not assume that every track in the library has identical credit requirements. YouTube documents an “Attribution not required” filter for library tracks that do not require attribution; a Creative Commons track requires credit in the video description. - Download the track and save its terms with your project. Keep the track name, artist, source, license details, and any supplied credit text. A screenshot or saved copy of the relevant terms can help you document what you relied on if questions arise.
- Add required attribution before publishing. If the track requires credit, put the supplied credit text in the video description. Do not treat a credit embedded in the video, a pinned comment, or “I don’t own this music” as a substitute for a license or for the required description credit.
- Upload and review the result in YouTube Studio. Check the video’s copyright restrictions after upload. A library track is a practical route for YouTube, not a guarantee that no claim will ever appear. [c006] [c010]
If you intend to publish the same AMV on another platform, check the terms for that use separately. YouTube’s guidance for its own Audio Library does not establish that a track is cleared for off-platform distribution. [c003]
Can I use WoW music in my AMV?
Do not assume that game music, extracted audio, or a soundtrack purchase is automatically cleared for your edit. The fact that music appears in a Blizzard game does not make every use of its recording or composition permissible in a separate video.

The same distinction applies to a commercial song you already own. What should I check before choosing a track?
Match the license to the actual project, not just to the mood of the footage. A suitable track should work creatively and have terms that cover the recording, edits, destination, and intended distribution.
- The recording and composition: Confirm that permission covers the recording you downloaded as well as the underlying musical work. A license for a composition does not necessarily clear a particular commercial recording, and vice versa. [c002]
- Synchronization and editing: Check whether the license permits pairing music with video and whether it permits the cuts, excerpts, looping, or other changes you plan to make. Do not infer those permissions from a general “free” or “royalty-free” label. [c002] [c007]
- Destination and territory: Verify where the license lets you publish the video. Do not assume that permission for a YouTube upload also covers reposting to a different platform or distributing a downloadable version.

Can I monetize a WoW AMV?
Possibly, but there is no blanket yes or no. Blizzard’s video policy is generally framed around noncommercial community productions, with an express exception for payments for views through the partner programs it names. That exception does not clear the music. A separate song license must allow the intended monetization, and YouTube Audio Library terms are another separate condition. [c001] [c003]
Do not treat ordinary view-based revenue, sponsorship, and selling a video as equivalent. Blizzard’s policy includes sponsor-related language, so inspect the current policy if your AMV promotes a sponsor or brand rather than assuming that the view-payment exception covers it. Before publishing a monetized or sponsored video, check both sides: whether the planned use of Blizzard content fits Blizzard’s current policy and whether the music license covers that specific revenue or promotion. If either set of terms is unclear, do not rely on the other one to fill the gap.
Does crediting an artist make a commercial song safe to use?
No. Naming the artist, linking to a song, or writing “I don’t own this music” does not itself grant permission to put a commercial recording in an AMV. Credit is required by some licenses, but it is not a substitute for a license. [c005]

Nor does using a short excerpt automatically make the use fair. YouTube notes that a nonprofit label or a few seconds of a song does not automatically establish fair use. Fair use depends on the facts, can vary with jurisdiction, and is ultimately for courts to decide; an ordinary music-led AMV should not be presumed to qualify. [c005]
What if YouTube claims the music after upload?
A Content ID claim is not itself a copyright strike, but it can affect a video and should be reviewed rather than ignored. First inspect the claimant and the claimed segment in YouTube Studio, then compare the claim with the license and records you kept. YouTube documents options including erasing or replacing audio, trimming a segment, leaving a valid claim in place, or disputing when you are confident you have the necessary rights. [c006]
- Identify what was claimed. Check the claimant and the time segment, then determine whether the claim concerns your chosen music, game audio, or another part of the video.
- Compare the claim with your evidence. Locate the track’s actual license and any required credit. Confirm that it covers the recording, synchronization, platform, and use at issue—not merely that you downloaded the track or credited its creator.
- Choose a remedy that fits the facts. If you do not have the necessary rights, use YouTube’s available audio or segment tools, or leave a valid claim in place. If your documentation supports your rights, consider disputing through YouTube’s process.
- Do not dispute on assumption alone. YouTube warns that an unjustified dispute can escalate if the claimant obtains a valid takedown. A dispute is not a safe way to test whether an unclear license will hold up. [c006]
Even careful sourcing does not guarantee the absence of every claim or strike. YouTube’s statement that its own Audio Library music is copyright-safe applies to that library on YouTube; its broader copyright guidance cautions that suggested permission routes do not promise a claim-free result in every case. What should I check about the WoW footage itself?
Music clearance is only one part of the project. Blizzard’s video policy permits community productions using its content under conditions, generally for noncommercial use, and includes a specific exception for payments for views through named partner programs. Check the current policy before publishing rather than assuming every use of game material is covered. [c001]

Blizzard’s permission for its game content does not answer whether the music is cleared, and music permission does not answer whether the footage fits Blizzard’s conditions. Keep those checks separate in your planning and records.

Keep a small rights record with the project so you can answer a claim or a licensing question without relying on memory. For each music track, save its exact name and artist, where you obtained it, the applicable license or terms, the date you accessed them, any attribution text, and a copy of the credit as it appears in the description. For Blizzard content, retain a note of the policy conditions you checked and how the production fits them.

For a Creative Commons recording, verify the license for the particular recording and preserve the information needed to meet its terms. CC BY 4.0 requires appropriate credit and an indication of changes; do not assume a track is CC BY 4.0 merely because a repost says so. Can I upload the same AMV to TikTok or another video platform?
Do not assume that a track selected under YouTube’s Audio Library guidance is cleared for other services. Check whether the track’s actual terms cover each destination and keep a record of the license that applies.
Can I use only a few seconds of a copyrighted song?
There is no automatic safe number of seconds. YouTube says that using just a few seconds does not by itself establish fair use; assess the rights and applicable law rather than relying on clip length.
Does a copyright claim mean my channel has a strike?
Not necessarily: YouTube distinguishes Content ID claims from copyright strikes. Read the specific notice in Studio, because a claim can still affect the video and a takedown may have more serious consequences.
What should a Creative Commons music credit include?
Follow the specific license rather than using a generic credit formula. For CC BY 4.0, the license requires appropriate credit and an indication of changes, and you should verify that the particular recording is actually offered under those terms.
