Choose your region, faction and server with your friends before creating characters. AION 2 assigns one faction to each server, so matching faction and server is the clearest route to playing together across faction-based activities. If your friends choose opposite factions, NCSOFT has documented a limited cross-faction PvE option—but it is not the same as sharing a faction or server.
What faction and server choices mean for playing with friends
NC’s global launch announcement describes character setup in this order: region, faction, then server. It says each server houses one faction, so Elyos and Asmodians do not share a home server. Server availability can change; check the live list when you make your characters. NC’s launch server and matchmaking announcement is the source for these setup details.

That structure makes the decision practical rather than purely cosmetic: if the group wants to share faction-based play, coordinate on the same region, faction and server before anyone commits to a character.
How to make the choice as a group
- Agree on a region. Ask each friend which region they plan to join. The available official information does not establish whether players in different regions can group together, so do not assume that a shared faction is enough if you choose different regions.
- Compare realistic play windows. Each person should share the days and hours they expect to play, including their time zone. Pick a faction and server the group can use together; no official source identifies a faction as better for weekday, weekend, early or late play.
- Choose the activities that matter most. If you want the widest scope of shared faction-based play, select the same faction and server. If friends want different factions, decide whether the documented cross-faction PvE option fits the group’s plans.
- Check the server list immediately before character creation. NC says the list is updated continuously, so an earlier availability check may no longer reflect the options at setup time.
If friends want opposite factions
Starting March 11, 2026, NCSOFT said players could form cross-faction PvE parties for dungeon and party play, with limited cross-faction communication in those settings. The update does not establish that all PvE activities or social features work across factions. Review NCSOFT’s March 11, 2026 update for the stated scope, and check current official notes for any later changes.

This option may suit a group that accepts a narrower set of shared activities. It does not make opposite-faction characters members of the same faction or server.

NC’s launch announcement says Elyos and Asmodian servers are paired for a limited time, with opponents in modes such as the Abyss and Spacetime Rifts coming from the matched server. These pairings concern PvP opposition; they are not a permanent guarantee about which server a group will face. The announcement does not establish an authoritative current pairing table or how long any particular pairing lasts. Check the current official server information if those modes matter to your group rather than relying on an old pairing list.
