Which Sonos subwoofer works with my soundbar?

What is the difference between Sub Mini and Sub 4?
Both product pages list frequency response as low as 25 Hz. That shared manufacturer specification does not establish that either model sounds better in every room. Their documented cabinet, driver, size, and weight differences are useful for comparing the hardware and where it may fit.

How should you choose between them?
- Rule out incompatible models first. If you have Playbar or Playbase, Sub 4 is not an option under Sonos’s compatibility guidance; Sub Mini is listed as compatible.
- Compare physical fit. Sub Mini is smaller and lighter, while Sub 4 has a different, wider-and-flatter dimension profile. Measure the intended location and check the path for carrying the heavier unit.
- Consider the documented hardware, not a promised room match. Sonos lists both at frequency response as low as 25 Hz, with different drivers and cabinet designs. The cited official pages do not specify room-size thresholds or provide independent comparative listening results, so they do not support a claim that one is best for a particular room size or universally sounds better.
- Check local price and system details. Prices vary by region and change over time. Confirm current compatibility and any app or system requirements on Sonos support before ordering.
How does setup and placement work?
Sonos directs users to set up the home theater speaker before adding a Sub when configuring both together. Add the Sub in the Sonos app; it connects wirelessly to the primary Sonos product and should be assigned to the same room. Follow Sonos’s Sub setup instructions for the current app flow.

Keep the opening or slot unobstructed. For Sub, Sonos advises leaving at least one side of the slot clear; if the unit is laid horizontally, do not put objects on top. Sub Mini’s setup guidance also says not to block its opening. See Sonos’s placement guidance.

Amp and Connect:Amp have a limited exception: they can use a third-party active subwoofer connected through RCA. Sonos does not support third-party passive subwoofers with either product, and the subwoofer output is disabled when Amp or Connect:Amp is configured with TV surround speakers. Consult Sonos’s third-party subwoofer guidance before connecting one.
